The relativistic mean-field model at large densities

The extrapolation properties of the relativistic mean-field model are investigated in nuclear matter. The results of a recent relativistic Bethe-Brueckner-Gatdstone calculation are taken as ‘data”. Fits in a window of normal nuclear densities are extrapolated to large densities and compared with the ‘data’. We find large discrepancies which hint at an insufficiency of the model in its present parametrisation.
J/ψsuppression at forward rapidity in Au+Au collisions atsNN=200GeV

Heavy quarkonia are observed to be suppressed in relativistic heavy-ion collisions relative to their production in p + p collisions scaled by the number of binary collisions. In order to determine if this suppression is related to color screening of these states in the produced medium, one needs to account for other nuclear modifications including those in cold nuclear matter. In this paper, we present new measurements from the PHENIX 2007 data set of J/psi yields at forward rapidity (1.2 < vertical bar y vertical bar < 2.2) in Au + Au collisions at root s(NN) = 200 GeV. Abstract We investigate the thermal RPA response of asymmetric nuclear matter interacting through a Skyrme interaction. For every spin-isospin channel, the evolution of the zero sound as a function of both neutron excess and temperature is analyzed.

RECENT DEVELOPMENTS INVOLVING ISOBARS IN NUCLEAR SYSTEMS — Workshop D

Developments of the last year or two concerning the role of isobar resonances in nuclear systems are reviewed. Special attention is given to the influence of the A isobar in the nucleon-nucleon force and to the possibility of the existence of NA or AA bound states. Also mentioned are the effects of the A in polarized pp scattering, in proton-nucleus scattering and in nuclear matter and the ground states of finite nuclei. Recent experiments intended to observe preexisting isobar configurations in nuclei are briefly surveyed. Approaches to pion-nucleus scattering based on NA interactions are discussed.
Nuclear-matter density distribution in the neutron-rich nuclei 12,14Be from proton elastic scattering in inverse kinematics

Abstract In the present work, the differential cross sections for small-angle proton elastic scattering on the 12,14 Be nuclei were measured in inverse kinematics, using secondary radioactive beams with energies near 700 MeV/u produced with the fragment separator FRS at GSI. The main part of the experimental setup was the active target IKAR, which was used simultaneously as a target and a detector for the recoil protons. Auxiliary detectors for projectile tracking and isotope identification completed the setup. The measured differential cross sections were analyzed using the Glauber multiple-scattering theory. Formation Of Hypernuclei In Evaporation And Fission Processes

There are excellent opportunities to produce excited heavy hyper residues in relativistic hadron and peripheral heavy-ion collisions. We investigate the disintegration of such residues into hyper nuclei via evaporation of baryons and light clusters and their fission. Previously these processes were well known for normal nuclei as the decay channels at low excitation energies. We have generalized these models for the case of hyper-matter. In this way we make extension of nuclear reaction studies at low temperature into the strange sector. We demonstrate how the new decay channels can be integrated in the whole disintegration process. The elliptic-flow ratio of neutrons with respect to protons in reactions of neutron rich heavy-ions systems at intermediate energies has been proposed as an observable sensitive to the strength of the symmetry term in the nuclear Equation Of State (EOS) at supra-saturation densities. The recent results obtained from the existing FOPI/LAND data for $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au collisions at 400 MeV/nucleon in comparison with the UrQMD model allowed a first estimate of the symmetry term of the EOS but suffer from a considerable statistical uncertainty. Inclusive prompt photon production in nuclear collisions at RHIC and LHC

Nuclear modification factors of inclusive prompt photon production in d-Au collisions at RHIC and p-Pb collisions at the LHC are provided at different rapidities. The calculations are performed at NLO accuracy using the EPS09 NLO nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs) and their error sets. The results are compared to the ones obtained with the nDS and HKN07 NLO nPDFs, and to the corresponding nuclear modification factors of neutral pion production in these collisions. The sensitivity of these results to the scale choice is also investigated. Measurement of photon?jet transverse momentum correlations in 5.02 TeV Pb + Pb and pp collisions with ATLAS

Jets created in association with a photon can be used as a calibrated probe to study energy loss in the medium created in nuclear collisions. Measurements of the transverse momentum balance between isolated photons and inclusive jets are presented using integrated luminosities of 0.49 nb−1 of Pb + Pb collision data at TeV and 25 pb−1 of pp collision data at TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Photons with transverse momentum GeV and are paired with all jets in the event that have GeV and pseudorapidity .
