Some Evidence of the Cluster Struture Inside of 9Be

2017

Angular distributions of protons, deuterons, tritons and alpha-particles emitted from the reactions in the 2H+9Be-system at Elab=19.5 MeV were measured with an aim to shed light on the internal cluster structure of 9Be and the study of possible cluster transfer of 5He. The analyses suggest a significant contribution of five-nucleon transfer in the reaction channel 9Be(d,4He)7Li. peerReviewed

Interweaving of elementary modes of excitation in superfluid nuclei through particle-vibration coupling: Quantitative account of the variety of nucle…

2015

A complete characterization of the structure of nuclei can be obtained by combining information arising from inelastic scattering, Coulomb excitation, and γ -decay, together with one- and two-particle transfer reactions. In this way it is possible to probe both the single-particle and collective components of the nuclear many-body wave function resulting from the coupling of these modes and, as a result, diagonalizing the low-energy Hamiltonian. We address the question of how accurately such a description can account for experimental observations in the case of superfluid nuclei. Our treatment goes beyond the traditional approach, in which these properties are calculated separately, and mos…

Decay spectroscopy of 179 82 Pb 97 and evidence for a 9/2− intruder state in 179 81 Tl 98

2017

The very neutron-deficient isobars 179Pb and 179Tl have been produced using the fusion-evaporation reactions 104Pd(78Kr,xpyn), where x≤1 and y≥2. The gas-filled separator RITU was employed to transport and separate the recoiling nuclei of interest from the scattered beam and unwanted products. The GREAT spectrometer was used to study the decay properties through α−α and α−γ correlations, which has allowed the ground state of 179Pb to be assigned as Iπ=9/2−. The decay of 179Pb was measured to have an α-particle energy and half-life of Eα=7348(5)keV and t1/2=2.7(2) ms, respectively. A search for a νi13/2 state in 179Pb was performed, but only a limit of excitation energy and half-life was obt…

Octupole states in 207Tl studied through β decay

2020

The β decay of 207Hg into the single-proton-hole nucleus 207Tl has been studied through γ-ray spectroscopy at the ISOLDE Decay Station (IDS) with the aim of identifying states resulting from coupling of the πs−11/2, πd−13/2, and πh−111/2 shell model orbitals to the collective octupole vibration. Twenty-two states were observed lying between 2.6 and 4.0 MeV, eleven of which were observed for the first time, and 78 new transitions were placed. Two octupole states (s1/2-coupled) are identified and three more states (d3/2-coupled) are tentatively assigned using spin-parity inferences, while further h11/2-coupled states may also have been observed for the first time. Comparisons are made with st…

Charge radius changes of even-even neutron-rich Tellurium isotopes

2005

Laser spectroscopy based on resonant ionization of laser-desorbed atoms has been used to study the neutron-rich tellurium isotopes with the COMPLIS facility at ISOLDE-CERN. The isotope shift and the hyperfine structure of several neutron-rich Te isotopes: $^{120–136}$Te and $^{123m–133m}$Te have been measured. From the hyperfine structure and the isotope shift we can extract the magnetic and quadrupole moments and the change in the mean square charge radius respectively. The mean square charge radii of the even-even isotopes have been deduced and their comparison with the known data for the other elements near Z=50 is presented. The experimental $\delta$ is compared with that obtained from …

The NUMEN project @ LNS: Status and perspectives

2017

The NUMEN project aims at accessing experimentally driven information on Nuclear Matrix Elements (NME) involved in the half-life of the neutrinoless double beta decay (0νββ), by high-accuracy measurements of Heavy Ion (HI) induced Double Charge Exchange (DCE) reaction cross sections. In particular, the (18O,18Ne) and (20Ne,20O) reactions are used as tools for β+β+ and β−β− decays, respectively. In the experiments, performed at INFN - Laboratory Nazionali del Sud (LNS) in Catania, the beams are accelerated by the Superconducting Cyclotron (CS) and the reaction ejectiles are detected the MAGNEX magnetic spectrometer. The measured cross sections are challengingly low (a few nb), being the tota…

Tin resonance-ionization schemes for atomic- And nuclear-structure studies

2020

This paper presents high-precision spectroscopic measurements of atomic tin using five different resonance-ionization schemes performed with the collinear resonance-ionization spectroscopy technique. Isotope shifts were measured for the stable tin isotopes from the $5{s}^{2}5{p}^{2}\phantom{\rule{0.28em}{0ex}}^{3}{P}_{0,1,2}$ and ${}^{1}{S}_{0}$ to the $5{s}^{2}5p6s\phantom{\rule{0.28em}{0ex}}^{1}{P}_{1},^{3}{P}_{1,2}$ and $5{s}^{2}5p7s{\phantom{\rule{0.28em}{0ex}}}^{1}{P}_{1}$ atomic levels. The magnetic dipole hyperfine constants ${A}_{\mathrm{hf}}$ have been extracted for six atomic levels with electron angular momentum $Jg0$ from the hyperfine structures of nuclear spin $I=1/2$ tin isot…

Uncertainty analysis and symmetry restoration in nuclear self-consistent methods

2015

This thesis contains two articles, in the following denoted by I and II, and an introduction to them. In Chapter 1, I present the theoretical models of nuclear structure. In Chapter 2, I introduce the basic ideas about the density functional theory (DFT) and self-consistent mean-field (SCMF) calculations. In Chapter 3, I give the formulae for the uncertainty propagation, which is the error analysis method used in article I. As a proper tool to survey the predictive power of theoretical models, the error analysis now has become more and more widely used. By analyzing the propagation of uncertainties, one tries to find out the e ectiveness of the calculation with a given parameter set obtaine…
