A suspension of charged colloidal silica spheres exhibiting a bi-modal size distribution of particles, thereby mimicking a binary mixture, was studied using time-resolved ultra-small-angle synchrotron X-ray scattering (USAXS). The sample, consisting of particles of diameters d(A) = (104.7 ± 9.0) nm and d(B) = (88.1 ± 7.8) nm (d(A)/d(B) ≈ 1.2), and with an estimated composition A(0.6(1))B(0.4(1)), was studied with respect to its phase behaviour in dependance of particle number density and interaction, of which the latter was modulated by varying amounts of added base (NaOH). BACKGROUND: In general, the rare SPT is a tumour of low malignancy predominantly affecting young women. The outcome after radical resection is favourable. Mixed tumours of the parotid gland are rare in childhood and recurrence of this tumour is infrequent. Some authors report a higher rate of recurrence with some histological subtypes, like hypocellular variant. Female sex and young age at initial treatment are also risk factor for recurrence. Also the first surgical treatment, tumour enucleation or parotidectomy, has been implicated as a cause for recurrence. The lymphoepithelial cyst is a dysontogenic benign cyst originated from the epithelial remnant retained inside the lymphoid tissue during the embryogenesis that occurs in the lateral neck region and, less frequently, in the oral cavity and in the parotid gland. The parotid gland evolvement increased significantly after the HIV discovery and it is related to ductal obstruction phenomenon that goes along with a follicular hyperplasia in the periductal parotid lymph nodes. Mechanisms for the Dynamics of Phase Transformations

An introductory review of the dynamics of (first- order) phase transitions is given. Concepts describing the initial stages of the transition, such as nucleation, spinodal decomposition (in the case of unmixing) are introduced, and their validity is critically discussed. The theoretical results are compared to recent computer simulations and pertinent experiments. Then the scaling concepts describing the late stages of domain growth are discussed, and open problems are outlined.

In a binary liquid mixture, different kinds of phase transitions can occur that are associated with various mass transport phenomena in the liquid. First, there is the possibility that the liquid undergoes a liquid-liquid demixing transition [1]. Near the critical point of this transition, a slowing down of dynamic properties is observed which is characterized, e.g., by a vanishing interdiffusion coefficient at the critical point [2, 3]. Another possible phase transition is a first-order transition of the liquid into a crystalline structure.
