Electromagnetic nucleon form factors in the spacelike region

1997

Abstract Form factors for elastic electron scattering parametrise the collective response of a struck object and provide information vital for the understanding of its ground state. The quality of existing data for the neutron is much behind that for the proton; it will now benefit from coincidence experiments at modern cw accelerators. For the electric form factor the scattering of high energy polarised electrons from polarised targets or the spin transfer to the recoiling neutron from unpolarised targets now exhibits its full potential in running experiments and delivers first results.

Nucleon structure functions from deep inelastic muon scattering

1992

Abstract Recent experimental results from the CERN NA37 (NMC) experiment on deep inelastic muon scattering on hydrogen and deuterium are presented. Absolute structure functions have been measured at 90 and 280 GeV incident energy covering the kinematical range 0.006 2 2 . The new results help to resolve the severe discrepancies between the data of the previous experiments. In addition data on the structure function ratio F 2 n /F 2 p are reviewed. Evidence for a non-leading twist at × ⪆ 0.20 is extracted from the Q 2 dependence of the structure function ratio. Its effect on the determination of the Gottfried sum rule is discussed.

First measurement of target and beam-target asymmetries in theγp→π0ηpreaction

2015

The first data on target and beam-target asymmetries for the gamma p -> pi(0)eta p reaction at photon energies from 1050 up to 1450 MeV are presented. The measurements were performed using the Crystal Ball and TAPS detector setup at the Glasgow tagged photon facility of the Mainz Microtron MAMI. The general assumption that the reaction is dominated by the Delta 3/2-amplitude is confirmed. The data are in particular sensitive to small contributions from other partial waves.

Muon capture in deuterium and the meson exchange current effect

1990

Abstract One-meson exchange current effect in reaction μ − + d → 2 n + v μ is calculated by using the weak axial current operator which satisfies the nuclear continuity equation up to the order 1 M 2 ( M is the nucleon mass). In the vector part of the weak nuclear interaction the vector-isovector pion exchange currents are also included. Their contribution is found to be non-negligible. The nuclear wave functions are generated from the Paris, Reid soft-core and Bonn potential models. Our result is compatible with the previous one, obtained with only the static axial exchange currents included.

ΛNNandΣNNsystems at threshold. II. The effect ofDwaves

2007

Using the two-body interactions obtained from a chiral constituent quark model, we study allN N andN N states with I = 0, 1, 2a ndJ = 1/2, 3/2 at threshold, taking into account all three-body configurations with S and D wave components. We constrain further the limits for theN spin-triplet scattering length a1/2,1 .U sing the hypertriton binding energy, we find a narrow interval for the possible values of theN spin-singlet scattering length a1/2,0. We find that theN N system has a quasibound state in the (I,J ) = (1, 1/2) channel very near threshold with a width of about 2.1 MeV.

Suppression of ϒ(1S) at forward rapidity in Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV

2014

We report on the measurement of the inclusive Υ (1S) production in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV carried out at forward rapidity (2.5 < y < 4) and down to zero transverse momentum using its μ+μ− decay channel with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. A strong suppression of the inclusive Υ (1S) yield is observed with respect to pp collisions scaled by the number of independent nucleon– nucleon collisions. The nuclear modification factor, for events in the 0–90% centrality range, amounts to 0.30 ± 0.05(stat) ± 0.04(syst). The observed Υ (1S) suppression tends to increase with the centrality of the collision and seems more pronounced than in corresponding mid-rapidity measur…

TAS measurements for reactor physics and nuclear structure

2011

In this contribution we will present recent total absorption measurements of the beta decay of neutron‐rich nuclei performed at the IGISOL facility of the Univ. of Jyvaskyla. In the measurements the JYFL Penning Trap was used as a high resolution isobaric separator. The total absorption technique will be described and the impact of recent results in the fields of reactor physics (decay heat calculations) and nuclear structure will be discussed.

Higher nucleon resonances in exclusive(γ,πN)reactions on nuclei

1998

We report calculations for exclusive pion photoproduction on nuclei beyond the first resonance region in the distorted wave impulse approximation. The elementary operator contains contributions from the resonances $P_{33}(1232)$, $P_{11}(1440)$, $D_{13}(1520)$, $D_{33}(1740)$, $S_{11}(1535)$, $S_{11}(1650)$, and $F_{15}(1680)$, in addition to the usual Born plus vector meson contributions. It gives a good description of single pion photoproduction data up to about 1.1 GeV. Final state interactions are incorporated via optical potentials and are found to be substantial in the coincidence cross sections, but insensitive to the photon asymmetry. Clear signatures of possible medium modification…

Search for superheavy elements in damped collisions betweenU238andCm248

1986

Negative results for the production of superheavy elements in damped collisions between $^{238}\mathrm{U}$ projectiles and $^{248}\mathrm{Cm}$ targets are reported. This reaction was believed to permit a closer and more widespread approach to the predicted island of stability near Z=114 and N=184 than any practical fusion reaction. Aqueous and gas phase chemistry techniques were used to isolate superheavy element fractions. The fractions were counted for spontaneous fission activity, fragment kinetic energies, and neutron multiplicities. Cross-section limits for half-lives from hours to several years are g4\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${10}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}35}$ ${\mathrm{cm}}^{…
