Out-of-plane emission of nuclear matter in Au+Au collisions between 100 and 800 AMeV

1997

We present new experimental results concerning the azimuthal distributions of proton-likes, light and intermediate mass fragments at midrapidity for Au(100-800 AMeV)+Au collisions measured with the FOPI phase-I detector at GSI in Darmstadt. The azimuthal distributions are investigated as a function of the collision centrality, the incident energy, the fragment charge and transverse momentum. The azimuthal anisotropy is maximum for impact parameters around 7 fm. Intermediate mass fragments present a stronger out-of-plane emission signal than light fragments and a saturation is reached for Z greater than or equal to 4. The azimuthal anisotropy increases with the fragment transverse momentum a…

Interplay of quasiparticle and phonon excitations in 181Hf observed through (n,γ) and reactions

2002

Abstract Nuclear levels of 181 Hf were investigated in the range up to 3 MeV excitation energy by (n, γ ) and (d,p) reactions. Over 170 levels and about 390 γ -transitions were established most of them for the first time. 25 rotational bands were identified. Comparison of the results of the two reactions yields information on the fine structure in the fragmentation of Nilsson strength. The states below 2 MeV with the most complete spectroscopic information were interpreted in terms of the Quasiparticle Phonon Model (QPM). Excitation energies, electromagnetic transition rates, γ -branchings and spectroscopic factors are discussed in connection with their possible structure.

First measurement of the helicity dependence of 3He photoreactions in the Δ(1232) resonance region

2013

The first measurement of the helicity dependence of the total inclusive 3He photo-absorption cross section and of the partial cross sections for several reaction channels was carried out at MAMI (Mainz) in the photon energy range between 150 and 500 MeV. The experiment used the large acceptance Crystal Ball spectrometer, complemented by charged particle and vertex detectors, a circularly polarised tagged photon beam and a longitudinally polarised high-pressure 3He gas target. The results obtained give information on the GDH integral on 3He and on the neutron and allow an investigation of the modifications of nucleon properties inside 3He.

Correlations of intermediate mass fragments from Fe+Ta, Au, and Th collisions.

1995

Charge, velocity, and angular correlations between intermediate mass fragments (IMF) are presented for 50 and 100 MeV/nucleon Fe bombardments of Ta, Au, and Th targets. Correlation functions generated as a function of the relative velocity and the opening angle between two IMF's are qualitatively independent of the projectile energy and target mass and show a suppression at small relative velocities and opening angles due to the Coulomb repulsion between the fragments. The correlations are consistent with IMF's emitted primarily from a highly excited target residue following a rapid preequilibrium cascade. The correlation data are compared to model calculations using the event generator men…

Shape coexistence at the proton drip-line: First identification of excited states inPb180

2010

Excited states in the extremely neutron-deficient nucleus {sup 180}Pb have been identified for the first time using the JUROGAM II array in conjunction with the RITU recoil separator at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyvaeskylae. This study lies at the limit of what is presently achievable with in-beam spectroscopy, with an estimated cross section of only 10 nb for the {sup 92}Mo({sup 90}Zr,2n){sup 180}Pb reaction. A continuation of the trend observed in {sup 182}Pb and {sup 184}Pb is seen, where the prolate minimum continues to rise beyond the N=104 midshell with respect to the spherical ground state. Beyond-mean-field calculations are in reasonable correspondence with the…

Components of polarization-transfer to a bound proton in a deuteron measured by quasi-elastic electron scattering

2018

We report the first measurements of the transverse (Px and Py) and longitudinal (Pz) components of the polarization transfer to a bound proton in the deuteron via the H2(e→,e′p→) reaction, over a wide range of missing momentum. A precise determination of the electron beam polarization reduces the systematic uncertainties on the individual components to a level that enables a detailed comparison to a state-of-the-art calculation of the deuteron using free-proton electromagnetic form factors. We observe very good agreement between the measured and the calculated Px/Pz ratios, but deviations of the individual components. Our results cannot be explained by medium modified electromagnetic form f…

High-spin states in205Rn:A new shears band structure?

1999

The high-spin structure of {sup 205}Rn has been investigated for the first time following the {sup 170}Er({sup 40}Ar,5n) and {sup 197}Au({sup 14}N,6n) reactions at beam energies of 183 MeV and 90{endash}110 MeV, respectively, using the Jurosphere and YRAST Ball arrays. Two new cascades have been identified which dominate the high-spin decay. One of these, consisting of ten stretched M1 transitions with unobserved E2 crossover transitions, is interpreted as a shears structure based on the {nu}i{sub 13/2}{sup {minus}1}{circle_times}{pi}i{sub 13/2}{sup 2} (or {nu}i{sub 13/2}{sup {minus}1}{circle_times}{pi}h{sub 9/2}i{sub 13/2}) configuration. {copyright} {ital 1999} {ital The American Physical…

rp-process nucleosynthesis at extreme temperature and density conditions

1998

We present nuclear reaction network calculations to investigate the influence of nuclear structure on the rp-process between Ge and Sn in various scenarios. Due to the lack of experimental data for neutron-deficient nuclei in this region, we discuss currently available model predictions for nuclear masses and deformations as well as methods of calculating reaction rates (Hauser-Feshbach) and beta-decay rates (QRPA and shell model). In addition, we apply a valence nucleon (NpNn) correlation scheme for the prediction of masses and deformations. We also describe the calculations of 2p-capture reactions, which had not been considered before in this mass region. We find that in X-ray bursts 2p-c…

Gamow-Teller Transitions in Proton Rich Exotic pf-shell Nuclei Deduced from Mirror Transitions

2010

The rp‐process nucleosynthesis proceeds through nuclei near the proton drip‐line, in which Gamow‐Teller (GT) transitions starting from unstable pf‐shell nuclei play important roles. In the β‐decay study of these nuclei, half‐lives can be measured rather accurately. On the other hand, in the high‐resolution (3He, t) charge‐exchange reactions on mirror nuclei, individual GT transitions can be studied up to high excitations. For the accurate study of the GT transition strengths in the A = 52, T = 2, system, we compare and combine the β‐decay study of the proton‐rich nucleus 52Ni and the 52Cr(3He, t) measurement assuming the isospin symmetry of the Tz = ±2→±1 transitions.

Baryon transition form factors at the pole

2016

Electromagnetic resonance properties are uniquely defined at the pole and do not depend on the separation of the resonance from background or the decay channel. Photon-nucleon branching ratios are nowadays often quoted at the pole, and we generalize the considerations to the case of virtual photons. We derive and compare relations for nucleon to baryon transition form factors both for the Breit-Wigner and the pole positions. Using the MAID2007 and SAID SM08 partial wave analyses of pion electroproduction data, we compare the $G_M$, $G_E$, and $G_C$ form factors for the $\Delta(1232)$ resonance excitation at the Breit-Wigner resonance and pole positions up to $Q^2=5$ GeV$^2$. We also explore…
