Unified description of hadronic and electromagnetic reactions of the two-nucleon system
2010
Abstract Studies of the two-nucleon system are essential for a profound understanding of nuclear structure and for the exploration of the limits of the effective description of atomic nuclei in terms of nucleons, mesons and isobars. In the present work, a unified description of hadronic and electromagnetic reactions on the two-nucleon system is developed in the framework of a coupled-channel N N / N Δ -approach which is based on one general Hamiltonian and which treats the pion exchange in the hadronic baryon–baryon interaction as well as in the meson exchange currents in the exact retarded manner. Unitarity and gauge invariance are at least approximately fulfilled. Several hadronic and ele…
Double deeply virtual Compton scattering off the nucleon.
2002
We study the double deeply virtual Compton scattering (DDVCS) process off the nucleon, through the scattering of a spacelike virtual photon with large virtuality resulting in the production of a timelike virtual photon, decaying into an e^+ e^- pair. This process is expressed in the Bjorken regime in terms of generalized parton distributions (GPDs) and it is shown that by varying the invariant mass of the lepton pair, one can directly extract the GPDs from the observables. We give predictions for the DDVCS cross section and beam helicity asymmetry and discuss its experimental feasibility.
Forward J/ψ production at high energy: Centrality dependence and mean transverse momentum
2016
Forward rapidity $J/\psi$ meson production in proton-nucleus collisions can be an important constraint of descriptions of the small-$x$ nuclear wavefunction. In an earlier work we studied this process using a dipole cross section satisfying the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation, fit to HERA inclusive data and consistently extrapolated to the nuclear case using a standard Woods-Saxon distribution. In this paper we present further calculations of these cross sections, studying the mean transverse momentum of the meson and the dependence on collision centrality. We also extend the calculation to backward rapidities using nuclear parton distribution functions. We show that the parametrization is over…
Three dimensional hydrodynamics of ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions
1988
We have utilized a 2+1 dimensional numerical code based on Flux Corrected Transport method to find a solution for 3+1 dimensional cylindrically symmetric hydrodynamic flow of hadronic matter which is assumed to be formed in extremely high energy heavy ion collisions. The hydrodynamics is supplemented with a decoupling calculation in order to produce measurable particle distributions. This numerical procedure is applied here to Landau type initial conditions which have been fixed using a simple geometrical picture for a central O+Pb collision at 200 GeV/nucleon. The bag equation of state for nonbaryonic matter is used to simulate the deconfinement phase transition to quark gluon plasma. The …

The double polarization observable E and the helicity dependent cross sections σ1/2 and σ3/2 were measured for η photoproduction from quasifree protons and neutrons. The circularly polarized tagged photon beam of the A2 experiment at the Mainz MAMI accelerator was used in combination with a longitudinally polarized deuterated butanol target. The almost 4π detector setup of the Crystal Ball and TAPS is ideally suited to detect the recoil nucleons and the decay photons from η→2γ and η→3π0. The results show that the narrow structure previously observed in η photoproduction from the neutron is only apparent in σ1/2 and hence, most likely related to a spin-1/2 amplitude. Nucleon resonances that …
Photoproduction of mesons and Compton scattering on the proton: Selected results from the A2 Collaboration at MAMI
2020
The A2 Collaboration performs a manifold research program using real photons in the Crystal Ball/TAPS experiment at the MAMI accelerator facility in Mainz. The experiments take advantage of high- intensity unpolarized, linearly or circularly polarized photon beams, and unpolarized or polarized targets. The detector setup provides almost complete coverage in solid angle and is well suited for the detection of multi particle final states. In order to probe the internal structure of the nucleon, the spectrum of baryon resonances is studied via measurements of unpolarized cross sections and various polarization observables in single and double meson photoproduction. The program aiming to determ…
J/\psi depletion in a nuclear medium
2012
In this talk, we have taken into account the main decay channel of J/ψ when travelling inside a nucleus. In analogy to all vector mesons in SU(3), where the main decay channel is to two pseudoscalars, in the case of the J/ψ the meson meson channel to which it couples strongly is DD. Taking this into account we study the J/ψN → DΛc and J/ψN → DΣc mediated by D-exchange. To obtain the couplings we use an extension to SU(4) of the local hidden gauge Lagrangians as done in [1]. Analogously, we consider the mechanisms where the exchanged D collides with a nucleon and gives πΛc or πΣc. The sum of these channels produces a J/ψN inelastic cross section which is larger than the elastic one and is re…
Double polarisation observable E and helicity dependent cross section for single π0 photoproduction off proton and neutron
2020
Photon-induced reactions, like meson photoproduction, allow to excite the nucleon, to have access to many different polarisation observables and are an essential tool to disentangle the role of the different electromagnetic multipoles due to the change of sign of some contributions and the presence of interference terms between different multipole amplitudes. In addition, the use of polarised beams and/or targets allow to access additional observables which are fundamental in order to accurately determine the nucleon resonance properties. The A2@MAMI collaboration is carrying out a broad and systematic study on this topics, both on the proton and the neutron. The experiments are performed a…
Estimating the flux of the 14.4 keV solar axions
2017
In this paper we present a calculation of the expected flux of the mono-energetic 14.4 keV solar axions emitted by the M1 type nuclear transition of $^{57}$Fe in the Sun. These axions can be detected, e.g., by inverse coherent Bragg-Primakoff conversion in single-crystal TeO$_2$ bolometers. The ingredients of this calculation are i) the axion nucleon coupling, estimated in several popular axion models and ii)the nuclear spin matrix elements involving realistic shell model calculations with both proton and neutron excitations. For the benefit of the experiments we have also calculated the branching ratio involving axion and photon emission
Measurements of Double-Polarized Compton Scattering Asymmetries and Extraction of the Proton Spin Polarizabilities
2015
The spin polarizabilities of the nucleon describe how the spin of the nucleon responds to an incident polarized photon. The most model-independent way to measure the nucleon spin polarizabilities is through polarized Compton scattering. Double-polarized Compton scattering asymmetries on the proton were measured in the $\Delta(1232)$ region using circularly polarized incident photons and a transversely polarized proton target at the Mainz Microtron. Fits to asymmetry data were performed using a dispersion model calculation and a baryon chiral perturbation theory calculation, and a separation of all four proton spin polarizabilities in the multipole basis was achieved. The analysis based on a…
