States of167Ho from the decay of neutron rich nuclide167Dy

Theβ −-decay of 66 167 Dy produced through the fast neutron reaction170Er(n, α)167Dy has been investigated by using several kinds of detectors and a high-capacity two-parameter recording system. The half-life andβ −-decay energy of167Dy were determined to beT 1/2 = 6.20 ± 0.08min andQ β-=2.35±0.06, respectively. The observed level scheme of 67 167 Ho (completely unknown previously) contains 12 states, among them a 6.0±0.1 μsM2 isomer at 259.3 keV. On the basis of theoretical and systematic considerations combined with multipole determinations, the following Nilsson model assignments are proposed for the lowest states of167Ho: 0 keV (7−/2 [523]), 259.3 keV (3+/2[411]), 319.8 keV (5/2 3+/2[41…

In-beam study of 254No

1999

Excited states of the Z = 102 nuclide 254No have been studied in the reaction 208Pb(48Ca,2n) by means of in-beam γ -ray spectroscopy in combination with recoil gating and recoil decay tagging. A Ge detector array, consisting of four clover detectors, and a gas-filled separator were used. Six γ-ray lines were observed and associated with E2 transitions in the ground state band of 254No, the highest-lying of these being the 16+→ 14+ transition. Based on global systematics and the extrapolated 2+ 1 excitation energy, the value β2= 0.27 ± 0.03 was extracted for the quadrupole deformation. An improved value for the half-life of 254No, T1/2= (48 ± 3) s, was determined.

Beta decay of 40Sc to proton and alpha-particle unbound states in 40Ca

Delayed charged particle emission associated with the precursor nuclide 40Sc was studied by use of the He-jet technique. Altogether 40 proton groups (1.0 MeV < Ep < 3.7 MeV) and 21 α-particle groups (2.0 MeV < Eα < 4.6 MeV) were observed. Total proton and α-particle branching ratios were measured to be (4.4±0.7) × 10−3 and (0.17±0.05) × 10−3, respectively. Association of the delayed particle emitting levels with the levels observed in resonance reaction studies is discussed. The fact that the most prominent α-particle groups do not have a counterpart in resonance reaction data suggests collectivity or a cluster configuration for the emitting levels. High-precision masses of neutron-deficient rubidium isotopes using a Penning trap mass spectrometer

The atomic masses of the neutron-deficient radioactive rubidium isotopes $^{74-77,79,80,83}$Rb have been measured with the Penning trap mass spectrometer ISOLTRAP. Using the time-of-flight cyclotron resonance technique, relative mass uncertainties ranging from $1.6 \times 10^{-8}$ to $5.6 \times 10^{-8}$ were achieved. In all cases, the mass precision was significantly improved as compared with the prior Atomic-Mass Evaluation; no significant deviations from the literature values were observed. On the decay of theJπ= 11/2−,T1/2= 38.9 h isomer in133Ba: search for the E5 transition and verification of the EC branch

International audience; This paper presents a search for the competing 11/2 − → 1/2 + E5 branch to the main 11/2 − → 3/2 + M4 transition from the T 1/2 = 39 h, J π = 11/2 − isomeric state in 133 Ba. An upper limit of 1.8 * 10 −5 could be established for the E5/M4 intensity ratio. In addition a long-standing controversy in the EC-decay of the same isomer was resolved: only one EC branch to the 11/2 + state in 133 Cs was observed. The shell-model structures of the involved states in 133 Ba and 133 Cs were studied with the microscopic quasiparticle-phonon model (MQPM). Good agreement with the decay rates B(λ) was obtained. Accurate masses of neutron-deficient nuclides close to

Abstract Mass measurements with the Penning-trap mass spectrometer ISOLTRAP at ISOLDE/CERN are extended to nonsurface ionizable species using newly developed ion-beam bunching devices. Masses of 179–197Hg, 196,198Pb, 197Bi, 198Po and 203At were determined with an accuracy of 1×10 −7 corresponding to δm≈20  keV. Applying a resolving power of up to 3.7×10 6 ground and isomeric states of 185,187,191,193,197Hg were separated. First experimental values for the isomeric excitation energy of 187,191Hg are obtained. A least-squares adjustment has been performed and theoretical approaches are discussed to model the observed fine structure in the binding energy.

Direct mass measurements of cadmium and palladium isotopes and their double-βtransitionQvalues

The Q-value of the double-electron capture in Cd-108 has been determined to be (272.04 +/- 0.55) keV in a direct measurement with the double-Penning trap mass spectrometer TRIGA-TRAP. Based on this result a resonant enhancement of the decay rate of Cd-108 is excluded. We have confirmed the double-beta transition Q-values of Cd-106 and Pd-110 recently measured with the Penning-trap mass spectrometers SHIPTRAP and ISOLTRAP, respectively. Furthermore, the atomic masses of the involved nuclides Cd-106, Cd-108, Cd-110, Pd-106, Pd-108 and Pd-110 have been directly linked to the atomic mass standard.

β-decay half-life of70Kr: A bridge nuclide for therpprocess beyondA=70

2000

The -decay half-life of 70 Kr has been measured for the first time at the ISOLDE PSB Facility at CERN. Mass separated 70 Kr ions were produced by 1 GeV proton induced spallation reactions in a Nb foil. The measured half-life is 57(21) ms. This value is consistent with the half-life calculated assuming a pure Fermi decay, but is clearly lower than the value used in a recent rp-process reaction flow calculation. The result shows that the reaction flow via two-proton-capture of 68 Se is 2.5 times faster than previously calculated assuming an astrophysical temperature of 1.5 GK and a density of 10 6 g/cm 3 .
