Violation of the Wiedemann-Franz Law in HF Metals

2014

Experimental observations of the much-studied compounds CeCoIn\(_5\) and YbRh\(_2\)Si\(_2\) at vanishing temperatures carefully probe the nature of their magnetic-field-tuned QCPs. The violation of Wiedemann-Franz (WF) law, along with jumps revealed both in the residual resistivity \(\rho _0\) and the Hall resistivity \(R_H\), provide vital clues to the origin of their non-Fermi-liquid behavior. The empirical facts point unambiguously to association of the observed QCP with FC forming flat bands.

Scaling behavior in the dynamics of a supercooled Lennard-Jones mixture

1994

We present the results of a large scale molecular dynamics computer simulation of a binary, supercooled Lennard-Jones fluid. At low temperatures and intermediate times the time dependence of the intermediate scattering function is well described by a von Schweidler law. The von Schweidler exponent is independent of temperature and depends only weakly on the type of correlator. For long times the correlation functions show a Kohlrausch behavior with an exponent $\beta$ that is independent of temperature. This dynamical behavior is in accordance with the mode-coupling theory of supercooled liquids.

Multiple Time Scales in the Microwave Ionization of Rydberg Atoms

1995

We investigate the time dependence of the ionization probability of Rydberg atoms driven by microwave fields, both numerically and experimentally. Our exact quantum results provide evidence for an algebraic decay law on suitably chosen time scales, a phenomenon that is considered to be the signature of nonhyperbolic scattering in unbounded classically chaotic motion.

Lepton-number violation with quasi-Dirac neutrinos

1983

We investigate lepton-number violation in weak interactions with massive Dirac neutrinos. In the framework of a simple $\mathrm{SU}{(3)}_{L}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}\mathrm{U}(1)$ electroweak model we find that neutrinos naturally acquire only Dirac masses at tree level, and for an odd number of lepton families, one neutrino remains massless. After a spontaneous breakdown of symmetry we find that the SU(2)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}U(1) effective theory has lepton-number-violating currents which couple to the standard gauge bosons. Flavorconserving $|\ensuremath{\Delta}l|=2$ processes such as neutrinoless double-$\ensuremath{\beta}$ decay are forbidden in the simplest model,…

Diffractive m-bonacci lenses.

2017

[EN] Fibonacci zone plates are proving to be promising candidates in image forming devices. In this letter we show that the set of Fibonacci zone plates are a particular member of a new family of diffractive lenses which can be designed on the basis of a given m-bonacci sequence. These lenses produce twin axial foci whose separation depends on the m-golden mean. Therefore, with this generalization, bifocal systems can be freely designed under the requirement at particular focal planes. Experimental results support our proposal. A missing link: What is behind de Broglie's "Periodic phenomenon"?

1996

The present work constitutes an attempt to give the interpretation of de Broglie's internal periodic phenomenon which ascribes the frequencym0c2/h to each single entity in its eigensystem of coordinates. This phenomenon provides existence in principle of the ideal proper-time scale, making it possible to identify the geometric proper-time interval with a physically existing one, thus ensuring the realization of basic postulates of the relativity theory. According to the latter, neither time nor de Broglie's frequency are invariant with respect to the Lorentz transformation of the coordinate system. A search for the fundamental invariant demands passing over to dimensionless quantities, and …

Strongly super-Poisson statistics replaced by a wide-pulse Poisson process: The billiard random generator

2021

Abstract In this paper we present a study on random processes consisting of delta pulses characterized by strongly super-Poisson statistics and calculate its spectral density. We suggest a method for replacing a strongly super-Poisson process with a wide-pulse Poisson process, while demonstrating that these two processes can be set in such a way to have similar spectral densities, the same mean values, and the same correlation times. We also present a billiard system that can be used to generate random pulse noise of arbitrary statistical properties. The particle dynamics is considered in terms of delta and wide pulses simultaneously. The results of numerical experiments with the billiard s…

An extended Ritz formulation for buckling and post-buckling analysis of cracked multilayered plates

2018

Abstract An extended Ritz formulation for the analysis of buckling and post-buckling behaviour of cracked composite multilayered plates is presented. The formulation is based on: (i) the First-order Shear Deformation Theory to model the mechanics of the multilayered plate; (ii) the von Karman’s theory to account for geometric non-linearities ; (iii) the use of an extended set of approximating functions able to model the presence of an embedded or edge crack and to capture the crack opening fields as well as the global behaviour within a single cracked domain. The numerical results of the buckling analyses and the equilibrium paths in the post-buckling regime are compared with the results fr…

On the angular momentum transfer on to compact stars in binary systems

2001

Results of three-dimensional numerical simulations of the gas transfer in close binary systems show that, in addition to the formation of a tidally induced spiral shock wave, it is also possible for accretion streams to be produced, having low specific angular momentum in a region close to the accreting star. These streams are mainly placed above the orbital disc but are also unevenly present in the equatorial plane. The relevance of such flows is related to formation of hot coronae or bulges in regions very close to the accretor centre. The eventual formation of such bulges and shock-heated flows is interesting in the context of advection-dominated solutions and for the explanation of spec…
