A VLBI study of the wind-wind collision region in the massive multiple HD 167971
2019
Context. Colliding winds in massive binaries are able to accelerate particles up to relativistic speeds as the result of the interaction between the winds of the different stellar components. HD 167971 exhibits this phenomenon which makes it a strong radio source. Aims. We aim at characterizing the morphology of the radio emission and its dependence on the orbital motion, traced independently by near-infrared (NIR) interferometry of both the spectroscopic binary and the tertiary component comprising HD 167971. Methods. We analyze 2006 and 2016 very long baseline interferometric data at C and X bands. We complement our analysis with a geometrical model of the wind-wind collision region and a…
ESR response to 60Co-rays of ammonium tartrate pellets using as additive
2007
Abstract This work presents experimental results regarding a new ammonium tartrate blend for ESR dosimetry, with a higher sensitivity and a lower lowest detectable dose (LDD) to Co 60 γ -rays than the recently used pure ammonium tartrate. The blend composed by ammonium tartrate and gadolinium-oxide ( Gd 2 O 3 ) shows a greater sensitivity ( ∼ 2 times) and a smaller LDD than ammonium tartrate. The increased sensitivity was mainly attributed to the great atomic number ( Z = 64 ) of gadolinium, that increases the effective atomic number of the blend; the interaction probability with photons and consequently the radical yield is therefore enhanced. Moreover ammonium tartrate with Gd 2 O 3 has a…
Novel epoxy formulations for high energy radiation curable composites
2005
Abstract It has been widely recognised that high energy radiation can be effectively applied to the cure of epoxy resins in applications as composite matrices or structural adhesives with improvements in product quality and/or reduction in production costs. In the presence of suitable initiators, polymerisation of epoxies occurs via cationic mechanism, thus restricting the choice of the resin system components to species which do not contain electron donor groups. The present investigation is aimed to identify suitable co-monomers to be formulated with an epoxy resin, resulting in different cure reaction kinetics and application properties of the cured resin. In particular, four different a…
Les Temps modernes et le tournant transcendantal. Blumenberg, Kant et la question du monde
2012
International audience; Blumenberg’s phenomenology of the history of concepts couldn’t overlook Kantian inventions to escape the dead ends of metaphysics. Kant constitutes a decisive help in mapping the ruptures of Modern Age. On the one hand, the cosmogonical essays of the precritical period illustrate reason’s typically modern self-assertion. On the other hand, the transcendental turn stands for a radicalization of Modern Age towards the Enlightenment. But Blumenberg also pays attention to what, in Kant, disturbs the modern project of reason’s self-authorization. Transcendental philosophy always calls for a new beginning, because it anticipates its possible failure.
Radon-Nikodym theorem in quasi *-algebras
2013
In this paper some properties of continuous representable linear functionals on a quasi $*$-algebra are investigated. Moreover we give properties of operators acting on a Hilbert algebra, whose role will reveal to be crucial for proving a Radon-Nikodym type theorem for positive linear functionals.
Flow resistance of overland flow on a smooth bed under simulated rainfall
2020
In this paper a recently theoretically deduced flow resistance equation, based on a power-velocity profile, was tested using laboratory measurements by Yoon and Wenzel for an overland flow on a smooth bed under rainfall. These measurements of the Darcy-Weisbach friction factor, corresponding to a wide range of the flow Reynolds number (191–5700), were carried out for an overland flow under a simulated rainfall characterized by different intensity values ranging from 13 to 381 mm h−1. At first, the available measured values of flow velocity, water depth, cross sectional area, wetted perimeter and bed slope were used to calibrate the relationship between the velocity profile parameter Γ, the …
Zofenopril is a cost-effective treatment for patients with left ventricular systolic dysfunction following acute myocardial infarction: a pharmacoeco…
2013
Objective: The Survival of Myocardial Infarction Long-term Evaluation 4 Study (SMILE-4) showed the superiority of Zofenopril (Z) associated with Acetylsalicylic Acid (ASA) as respect to Ramipril (R) plus ASA in reducing the occurrence of major cardiovascular events, in patients with left ventricular dysfunction (LVD) following Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI). The objective of this retrospective analysis was the evaluation of cost-effectiveness of Z compared to R. Methods: 771 patients with LVD and AMI were randomized, double-blind to Z 60 mg/day (n=389) or R 10 mg/day (n=382) plus ASA 100 mg/day and followed-up for 1 year. The primary study end-point was 1-year combined occurrence of deat…

Thickness Dependence of Random Field Distribution in Thin Films Made of Disordered Ferroelectrics
2005
Abstract We present the calculation of first moment E 0 and variance ΔE of distribution function of random fields in a ferroelectric of finite size. Specific calculations have been performed for the case of slab-shaped ferroelectric thin film. We have shown that E 0 and ΔE can be expressed through the integrals from first and second degree of Green's function of ferroelectric in k-space. To obtain the Green's function, we solve the differential equation minimizing Landau free energy of a ferroelectric with respect to the boundary conditions on its surfaces. We show that both E 0 and ΔE depend on film thickness L.
