A NEW COMPLEXITY FUNCTION FOR WORDS BASED ON PERIODICITY

2013

Motivated by the extension of the critical factorization theorem to infinite words, we study the (local) periodicity function, i.e. the function that, for any position in a word, gives the size of the shortest square centered in that position. We prove that this function characterizes any binary word up to exchange of letters. We then introduce a new complexity function for words (the periodicity complexity) that, for any position in the word, gives the average value of the periodicity function up to that position. About the role of Galois groups in TGD framework

This article was inspired by the inverse problem of Galois theory. Galois groups are realized as number theoretic symmetry groups realized physically in TGD a symmetries of space-time surfaces. Galois confinement is as analog of color confinement is proposed in TGD inspired quantum biology. Two instances of the inverse Galois problem, which are especially interesting in TGD, are following: Q1: Can a given finite group appear as Galois group over Q? The answer is not known. Q2: Can a given finite group G appear as a Galois group over some EQ? Answer to Q2 is positive as will be found and the extensions for a given G can be explicitly constructed.

Description of kraft cooking and oxygen–alkali delignification of bamboo by pulp and dissolving material analysis

Abstract The oxygen delignification of two bamboo ( Bambusa procera ) kraft pulps with kappa numbers of 13.6 and 20.0 were studied under typical conditions. Based on detailed analysis data on both the kraft and oxygen-delignified pulps and the corresponding spent liquors (black liquors and oxygen stage effluents), three yield and four selectivity estimation methods, utilizing component material balances, were tested resulting in the value ranges 96.2–97.9% and 43.5–60.4%, respectively, for oxygen delignification process studied. Delignification of bamboo (Bambusa procera acher)

Abstract Delignification of bamboo ( Bambusa procera acher ) was carried out by conventional kraft and soda pulping under varying conditions to determine the relationships between selected cooking parameters (EA 14–20%, sulfidity 0–45%, maximum temperature 165 and 170 °C, and time at maximum temperature 30–95 min) and pulp properties (kappa number, viscosity, and yield). Results indicated that in order to obtain relatively low kappa numbers (17–24), high sulfidity (35–45%) at lower EA (14–16%) increased both pulp viscosity and yield compared to the case of low sulfidity (0–15%) at higher EA (16–18%). ɛ-type contribution to baryon asymmetry from colored Higgs triplets

In scenarios where the cosmological baryon asymmetry is generated in the decay of heavy colored Higgs triplets at the one-loop level (at least two triplets are needed), it is shown that in addition to the conventional triangle loop ({epsilon}{prime}-type effect), a new kind of diagram must be considered. This new type of diagram has its origin in the mixing of the two Higgs fields ({epsilon}-type effect). The mixing of the two Higgs fields violates {ital CP} provided they have at least two common decay channels. For small mixing angles, the new contribution can be bigger than the conventional one.

Neutrino mass and baryon-number nonconservation in superstring models

We propose new mechanisms for understanding neutrino masses in superstring models that contain ${\mathrm{E}}_{6}$-singlet zero-mass fields after compactification. We show that the low-energy gauge group of these models can be phenomenologically acceptable. We then comment on \ensuremath{\Delta}B=1 and \ensuremath{\Delta}B=2 baryon-number-violating processes in these models.

Glass-basalt/epoxy hybrid composites for marine applications

Abstract The aim of this work is to evaluate the influence of uniaxial basalt fabric layers on the mechanical performances of a glass mat/epoxy composite used for marine applications. Polymer composites, reinforced by glass mat (GFRP), and hybrid ones, reinforced by glass mat and unidirectional basalt fabric, have been produced by vacuum bagging technique. Quantification of the Detrimental Effect of a Single Primer-Template Mismatch by Real-Time PCR Using the 16S rRNA Gene as an Example

ABSTRACT We investigated the effects of internal primer-template mismatches on the efficiency of PCR amplification using the 16S rRNA gene as the model template DNA. We observed that the presence of a single mismatch in the second half of the primer extension sequence can result in an underestimation of up to 1,000-fold of the gene copy number, depending on the primer and position of the mismatch.
