Attraction of kestrels to vole scent marks visible in ultraviolet light

IN northern Europe, broad four-year oscillations in small rodent and raptor populations are synchronous over hundreds of square kilometers1–6. Crashes in vole populations can induce wide emigration (> 1,000 km) of their predators7 –9, but almost nothing is known about how predators rapidly detect areas of vole abundance. Here we report on laboratory and field experiments on voles (Microtus agrestis) and kestrels (Falco tinnunculus). Voles mark their runaways with urine and faeces, which are visible in ultraviolet light. Recoil-α-fission and recoil-α–α-fission events observed in the reaction 48Ca + 243Am

Products of the fusion-evaporation reaction 48Ca + 243Am were studied with the TASISpec set-up at the gas-filled separator TASCA at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung, Darmstadt, Germany. Amongst the detected thirty correlated α-decay chains associated with the production of element Z=115, two recoil-α-fission and five recoil-α-α-fission events were observed. Il contributo riguarda l'annoso problema interpretativo riguardante celebre formula omerica delle 'parole alate' (epea pteroenta). Dopo aver preso in considerazioni le diverse tesi critiche al riguado, l'autore conclude che. 1. la formula ha un contenuto proprio ed è semanticamente piena. Non è dunque vero che le formule omeriche sono semanticamente voute, come volva Parry. 2. essa è applicabile indifferentemente a tutte le situazioni di dialogo e a tutti contenuti enunciativi. Non è dunque vero che le parole alate sono tali, perché efficaci, ben indirizzate o altro. 3.
