The resource quality of the host has been shown to affect parasite transmission success, prevalence, and virulence. A widely abundant and invasive forest shrub, Eupatorium adenophorum, was pyrolyzed in a cost-efficient flame curtain kiln to produce biochar. The resulting biochar fulfilled all the requirements for premium quality, according to the European Biochar Certificate. Bread is largely consumed and could be used as a carrier for different nutrients. Fibers play an important role in human nutrition but the bread are depleted in this nutrient. For fibers, supplementation could be used different sources. The fibers needed to be tested before their use in breadmaking. This work investigates how some commercial fibers (Exafine, Apple AF12, Potato KF 200, Oat HF 200 and Wheat WF400) influence the rheology of dough at 10 and 15 % addition. Iron Bioavailability in Fortified Fruit Beverages Using Ferritin Synthesis by Caco-2 Cells

The bioavailability of iron from fortified fruit beverages was estimated by an in vitro system including enzymatic digestion, iron uptake by Caco-2 cells, and ferritin formation determined via an enzyme immunoassay (ELISA). Thus, the aim of the present study was to assess iron bioavailability as influenced by the presence of known dietary promoter and inhibitory factors in fortified fruit beverages containing iron and/or zinc and/or skimmed milk. Eight-year-old olive trees of ‘Nocellara del Belice’ grown in central Sicily were treated with five different types/combinations of organic and mineral foliar fertilizers. Macro Element Content in Fertilized Forest Soils in Spruce (Picea Abies (L.) H. Karst.) Stands in Latvia

The present paper provides an overview of analysis conducted with soil samples from depths up to 80 cm, obtained in the Klive area from a spruce stand owned by JSC “Latvijas Valsts meži”. Also test fertilization attempts were made with the use of ash- and potassium-based artificial fertilizers (K2SO4). The content of macro elements (K, Ca, N, and C) was determined in the soil samples in the course of the analysis. The obtained results indicate that the content of K and Ca decreases at greater horizontal depths of the soil. Nutrients are subsequently being leached away from the soil.
