The raccoon dog, Nyctereutes procyonoides (NCBI Taxonomy ID: 34880, Figure 1a) belongs to the family Canidae, with foxes (genus Vulpes) being their closest relatives (Lindblad-Toh et al., 2005; Sun et al., 2019). Its original distribution in East Asia ranges from south-eastern Siberia to northern Vietnam and the Japanese islands. In the early 20th century, the raccoon dog was introduced into Western Russia for fur breeding and hunting purposes, which led to its widespread establishment in many European countries, Figure 1b. Trematodes Alaria alata raksturojums dažādās infrapopulācijās Latvijā un ģints analīze, pielietojot molekulārās bioloģijas metodes

Pētījuma mērķis bija noteikt Alaria alata sastopamību dažādās infrapopulācijās Latvijā un veikt ģints filoģenētisko koku analīzi. Pētījuma gaitā tika noteikta A. alata sastopamība meža cūkās (77%), lapsās (88%) un jenotsuņos (84%). Baltijas valstīs ekstensitāte definitīvajos saimniekos ir līdzīga. Salīdzinot divas mezocerkāriju klātbūtnes noteikšanas metodes, tika konstatēts, ka, pielietojot Alaria migrācijas metodi, mezocerkārijus konstatē 10 reizes biežāk salīdzinot ar līdz šim izmantoto metodi. La tassonomia di questo canide e le sue affinità filogenetiche rispetto ad altri membri della stessa famiglia sono state una fonte di dibattito scientifico. The phylogenetic relationships of the raccoon-dog, Nyctereutes procyonoides, were matter of debate in the last decades. Morphological phylogenies recognized some affinities between Nyctereutes and some South American canids, e.g. Cerdocyon, whereas more recent molecular studies support the inclusion of the raccoon-dog in the tribe Vulpini together with the genera Vulpes and Otocyon.
