Bakalaura darbs. (46 lapas, 27 attēli, 49 literatūras avoti, 3 pielikumi). Latviešu valodā Bakalaura darba ietvaros tika veikta nātrija bismuta titanāta (Na0,5Bi0,5TiO3) un cietā šķīduma 0,975(0,94Na0,5Bi0,5TiO3-0,06BaTiO3)-0,025LiNbO3 iegūšana, izmantojot cietfāžu reakcijas metodi, veicot mehānisko aktivāciju vienā no posmiem. Nepieciešamie savienojumi tika iegūti, izmantojot nātrija karbonātu (Na¬2CO3), bismuta (III) oksīdu (Bi2O3), titāna dioksīdu (TiO2), litija karbonātu (Li2CO3), niobija (V) oksī…
Superparamagnetic recoverable flowerlike Fe3O4@Bi2O3 core–shell with g-C3N4 sheet nanocomposite: synthesis, characterization, mechanism and kinetic s…
2019
In the present research study, a simple method was developed for the synthesis of three-dimensional flowerlike Fe3O4@Bi2O3 core–shell with g-C3N4 sheet nanocomposites. The X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electronic microscopy, transmission electron microscope, vibrating sample magnetometer, dynamic laser scattering analyzer and UV–Vis diffuse reflection spectroscopy were employed for the characterization of structure, purity and morphology of the resultant samples. The degradation of indigo carmine as a model of organic dye pollutant is applied for photo-catalytic activity. The parameters which are affecting the efficiency of various parameters, such as;…
Activation of silent mating type information regulation 2 homolog 1 by human chorionic gonadotropin exerts a therapeutic effect on hepatic injury and…
2017
Incidence and prevalence of inflammatory liver diseases has increased over the last years, but therapeutic options are limited. Pregnancy induces a state of immune tolerance, which can result in spontaneous improvement of clinical symptoms of certain autoimmune diseases including autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). We investigated the immune-suppressive mechanisms of the human pregnancy hormone, chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), in the liver. hCG signaling activates silent mating type information regulation 2 homolog 1 (SIRT1), which deacetylates forkhead box o3 (FOXO3a), leading to repression of proapoptotic gene expression, because the immunosuppressive consequence attributed to the absence of caspas…
Inhibition of colon cancer growth by docosahexaenoic acid involves autocrine production of TNFα
2016
IF 7.932; International audience; The omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) has anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. Among pro-inflammatory mediators, tumor necrosis factor a (TNF alpha) plays a paradoxical role in cancer biology with induction of cancer cell death or survival depending on the cellular context. The objective of the study was to evaluate the role of TNFa in DHA-mediated tumor growth inhibition and colon cancer cell death. The treatment of human colorectal cancer cells, HCT-116 and HCT-8 cells, with DHA triggered apoptosis in autocrine TNF alpha-dependent manner. We demonstrated that DHA-induced increased content of TNF alpha mRNA occurred thr…

Impact on Air Quality of the COVID-19 Lockdown in the Urban Area of Palermo (Italy).
2020
At the end of 2019, the first cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were reported in Wuhan, China. Thereafter, the number of infected people increased rapidly, and the outbreak turned into a national crisis, with infected individuals all over the country. The COVID-19 global pandemic produced extreme changes in human behavior that affected air quality. Human mobility and production activities decreased significantly, and many regions recorded significant reductions in air pollution. The goal of our investigation was to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown on the concentrations of the main air pollutants in the urban area of Palermo (Italy). In this study, the trends in the average…

Identification of KRT16 as a target of an autoantibody response in complex regional pain syndrome
2016
Abstract Objective Using a mouse model of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), our goal was to identify autoantigens in the skin of the affected limb. Methods A CRPS-like state was induced using the tibia fracture/cast immobilization model. Three weeks after fracture, hindpaw skin was homogenized, run on 2-d gels, and probed by sera from fracture and control mice. Spots of interest were analyzed by liquid chromatography-mass spectroscopy (LC-MS) and the list of targets validated by examining their abundance and subcellular localization. In order to measure the autoantigenicity of selected protein targets, we quantified the binding of IgM in control and fracture mice sera, as well as in co…
Effect of TiO2 and Al2O3 Addition on the Performance of Chitosan/Phosphotungstic Composite Membranes for Direct Methanol Fuel Cells
2023
Composite chitosan/phosphotungstic acid (CS/PTA) with the addition of TiO2 and Al2O3 particles were synthesized to be used as proton exchange membranes in direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). The influence of fillers was assessed through X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, liquid uptake, ion exchange capacity and methanol permeability measurements. The addition of TiO2 particles into proton exchange membranes led to an increase in crystallinity and a decrease in liquid uptake and methanol permeability with respect to pristine CS/PTA membranes, whilst the effect of the introduction of Al2O3 particles on the characteristics of membranes is almost the op…
ESR response to gamma-rays of alanine pellets containing B(OH)3 or Gd2O3.
2007
ESR response to gamma-irradiation (1-50 Gy) of blends containing alanine and either B(OH)(3) or Gd(2)O(3) is reported. The sensitivity of the alanine--B(OH)(3) blend is comparable to the sensitivity of pure alanine, although its lowest detectable dose, LDD, is smaller ( approximately 1.3 Gy) than that of pure alanine ( approximately 2.9 Gy). Alanine with Gd(2)O(3) is about two times more sensitive than pure alanine, and its LDD is 0.8 Gy. The better sensitivity and LDD are probably due to the high atomic number (Z=64) of gadolinium, which enhances the interaction probability with photons and, consequently, the radical yield. This study suggests that other high-Z atoms may be useful for incr…
