Embryonic development of corkwing wrasse, Symphodus melops

Master's thesis Aquatic Ecology BIO500 - University of Agder 2016 Eggs from corkwing wrasse, Symphodus melops were described, photographed and illustrated to characterise the embryonic development of this species. Egg development was divided into 8 stages from fertilisation until hatching with descriptions of key features for each stage. The rate of development in corkwing wrasse eggs at temperatures commonly found along the Norwegian coast (12, 15 and 18 C) was also investigated. Master's thesis in Coastal ecology (BIO501) The Pacific oyster (Magallana/Crassostrea gigas) is an invasive species to Scandinavia, originating on the Pacific coasts of Asia. Introduction to Europe of these oysters was a result of farming initiatives, put in place following declines of the native oyster species (Ostrea edulis). The oysters were introduced to Denmark, Sweden, and Norway in farming trials during the 1970s, however Norwegian and Swedish populations have also been a consequence of larval drift. Human Capital and Income Inequality: Some Facts and Some Puzzles

Using a broad number of indicators from an updated data set on human capital inequality for 146 countries from 1950 to 2010, this paper documents several facts regarding the evolution of income and human capital inequality. The main findings reveal that, in spite of a large reduction in human capital inequality around the world driven by a decline in the number of illiterates of several hundreds of millions of people, the inequality in the distribution of income has hardly changed. In many regions, the income Gini coefficient in 1960 was very similar to that in 2005. Therefore, improvements in literacy are not a sufficient condition to reduce income inequality, even though they improve life…
