Abstract Objectives Recent studies suggest an obesity survival paradox in patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI). The aim of this study was to investigate the in-hospital mortality of patients aged ≥70 y with acute MI relative to sex and obesity. Methods We selected patients ≥70 y of age with a diagnosis of acute MI based on the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) code I21 in the nationwide database of the Federal Statistical Office of Germany in 2014. The influence of diabetes on brain glutamate (GLU) uptake was studied in insulinopenic (streptozotocin [STZ]) and insulin-resistant (diet-induced obesity [DIO]) rat models of diabetes. In the STZ study, adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were treated with STZ (65 mg/kg intravenously) or vehicle and studied 3 weeks later. The relationship between the rheological behavior of RBCs and angiogenesis in the morbidly obese

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between red blood cell (RBC) aggregation and deformability and angiogenesis parameters in obese patients. METHODS We studied 35 obese subjects and 20 non-obese people as a control group. Angiogenesis was detected using Bio-Plex Pro Human Angiogenesis Multiplex Assays.
