Bi-2212 and Y123 highly curved single-crystal-like objects: whiskers, bows and ring-like structures

High-temperature superconducting objects of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 and Y Ba2Cu3O7 highly curved in the ab-plane, such as curved/kinked whiskers, bows and ring-like structures, were obtained within a solid?liquid?solid (SLS) grass-like growth mechanism. As-grown objects are crystals with three-dimensional epitaxy similar to conventional single crystals: they can be viewed as crystal parts ?cut? from a conventional rectangular crystal. Between our curved objects and conventional crystals, whiskers or thin films there are some differences in the superconducting properties induced only by the shape factors and no new physics is observed. Complex objects classified by morphological shape analysis and elliptical Fourier descriptors

This chapter deals with the classification of complex objects by morphological shape analysis and elliptical Fourier descriptors. An unsupervised method has been proposed to identify components with specific shapes by a simple edge detector and to classify them via the description of their contours. A particular application has been arranged in order to evaluate the goodness of this approach when discriminating between normal and pathological human megakaryocytes. Alterations in these cells can occur in many pathological processes and in such cases the pattern, size and shape of the cytoplasm and/or of the nucleus are extremely varied.

Abstract Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) has been introduced as a simpler alternative to the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) for connecting constrained smart objects to the Web. The adoption of the protocol depends on its relative advantage, and the cost–benefit associated with the use of the protocol is a significant factor affecting a protocol adoption decision. The Norwegian VET model consists of two years of upper secondary education followed by two years of apprenticeship at work. The Large Observatory For x-ray Timing

The Large Observatory For x-ray Timing (LOFT) was studied within ESA M3 Cosmic Vision framework and participated in the final down-selection for a launch slot in 2022-2024. Thanks to the unprecedented combination of effective area and spectral resolution of its main instrument, LOFT will study the behaviour of matter under extreme conditions, such as the strong gravitational field in the innermost regions of accretion flows close to black holes and neutron stars, and the supra-nuclear densities in the interior of neutron stars.
