Arsenic, cadmium, chromium, and nickel are classified by IARC as human carcinogens (Group 1), while lead as a probable/possible carcinogen to humans (Group 2A). Expectations as Reference Points: Field Evidence from Professional Soccer

We show that professional soccer players and their coaches exhibit reference-dependent behavior during matches. Controlling for the state of the match and for unobserved heterogeneity, we show on a minute-by-minute basis that players breach the rules of the game, measured by the referee’s assignment of cards, significantly more often if their teams are behind the expected match outcome, measured by preplay betting odds of large professional bookmakers. We further show that coaches implement significantly more offensive substitutions if their teams are behind expectations. Background We studied the combined effects of cognitive performance and lower extremity function on self-reported walking modifications and walking difficulty and on self-reported walking difficulty incidence over a 2-year follow-up. Methods A total of 848 community-dwelling older people aged 75-90 years participated at baseline, 816 at the 1-year follow-up, and 761 at the 2-year follow-up. O osobliwościach słowa kuriozum

Celem artykułu jest językoznawcza refleksja nad słowem kuriozum. Autorka artykułu nie tylko pokazuje w nim historię słowa w polszczyźnie, ale przede wszystkim rekonstruuje (na podstawie funkcjonujących w języku synonimów wyrazu kuriozum oraz licznych przykładów jego użycia) strukturę semantyczną słowa. Zwraca uwagę na jego niezwykłe bogactwo znaczeniowe, wielość semantycznych odcieni, a także różnorodność wyrażanych nim emocji. Równocześnie pokazuje, że zawarte we współczesnych słownikach języka polskiego definicje słownikowe kuriozum (będące punktem wyjścia poczynionych analiz) nie oddają w pełni semantycznej złożoności słowa.

Artikkelen presenterer en mikro-etnografisk undersøkelse av barns forhold til tingene i to småbarnsavdelinger i norske barnehager. Hensikten er å forstå hvordan barns relasjoner til ting virker inn på deres mulighet til deltagelse og sosial posisjonering i gruppen. Undersøkelsen er basert på Aktør-Nettverk-Teori som vektlegger tingenes betydning som agens i sosiale nettverk og tingenes funksjon som forlengelse av barnas kropper. Undersøkelsen viser at tingene har betydning som legitim inngangsbillett til deltagelse i lekegrupper og at tingenes innbyrdes hierarkiske orden bidrar i å uttrykke den sosiale orden mellom barna som inngår i relasjon med dem. Mismatch negativity (MMN) is a scalp-recorded electrical potential that occurs in humans in response to an auditory stimulus that defies previously established patterns of regularity. MMN amplitude is reduced in people with schizophrenia.
