Bio-ecological, phytosociological and conservation aspects of relictual and disjointed populations of Simethis mattiazzi (Vandelli) Sacc. (Xanthorrho…

2012

Two populations of Simethis mattiazzi (Xanthorrhoeaceae) were recently discovered in the Channel of Sicily – (1) Punta Bassana (Marettimo Island) and (2) Mount S. Giuliano (western Sicily) – at a considerable distance from the nearest stations hitherto known, located in southern Sardinia, the Pontine Islands Archipelago and Tunisia. The taxonomical and distributive aspects of this species are analysed to highlight the relictual and biogeographical significance of the disjointed and fragmentary nuclei distributed in several small islands of the Channel of Sicily, the Italian Peninsula and North Africa. Some morphological, biological, ecological and phytosociological aspects of the two new po…

Acyl-homoserine lactone production is more common among plant-associated Pseudomonas spp. than among soilborne Pseudomonas spp.

2001

ABSTRACT A total of 137 soilborne and plant-associated bacterial strains belonging to different Pseudomonas species were tested for their ability to synthesize N -acyl-homoserine lactones (NAHL). Fifty-four strains synthesized NAHL. Interestingly, NAHL production appears to be more common among plant-associated than among soilborne Pseudomonas spp. Indeed, 40% of the analyzed Pseudomonas syringae strains produced NAHL which were identified most often as the short-chain NAHL, N -hexanoyl- l -homoserine lactone, N -(3-oxo-hexanoyl)-homoserine lactone, and N -(3-oxo-octanoyl)- l -homoserine lactone (no absolute correlation between genomospecies of P. syringae and their ability to produce NAHL …

An “omic” approach towards molecular diagnosis of resistance to auxinic herbicides in Corn poppy (Papaver rhoeas)

2021

National audience; Papaver rhoeas (corn poppy) is a major, troublesome weed in winter crops. In conventionalagriculture, poppy control is essentially achieved through herbicide application. Followingintensive use of these substances, resistance has evolved in many poppy populations across itsrange in Europe. Among the herbicide modes of action concerned by resistance are auxinmimeticherbicides (HRAC group 4/O). Resistance to this mode of action has little beeninvestigated, and its determinants remain largely unknown. Literature data suggests that, whiletarget-site-based resistance exist, non-target-site-based resistance mechanisms may bepredominant. Target-site-based resistance to auxinic h…

Occurrence of non-target-site-based resistance to ALS inhibitors in the broadleaf weed Papaver rhoeas (corn poppy).

2013

The vast majority of reported cases of resistance to ALS inhibitors in broadleaves is due to the selection of mutant, herbicide-resistant ALS alleles carrying a mutation at one of a few ALS codons that can be easily identified (ALS-based resistance). Non-ALS-based resistance (non-target-site resistance, NTSR), considered to be endowed by differences in the expression of many genes, has essentially been reported in grasses and hardly ever in broadleaves. We investigated NTSR to ALS inhibitors in poppy by pairing plants resistant to ALS inhibitors with susceptible plants and subsequently analysing the segregation of resistance in F1 families. Poppy plants resistant to ALS inhibitors were geno…

Groupe de travail COLUMA Bourgogne Franche-Comté : analyse et cartographie de la résistance aux herbicides sur céréales

2013

This working group made a survey and drew maps of herbicide resistances in cereal crops according to modes of action and weed species. These resistances concern mainly grass weeds but also one dicot weeds.

Identification of phytopathogenic bacteria in maize seeds in Ukraine

2018

The main bacterial diseases of maize: bacterial wilt of maize (Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii), goss’s bacterial wilt (Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. nebraskensis), seed rot-seedling blight of maize (Bacillus subtilis), bacterial spot of maize (Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae), bacterial leaf spot of maize (Pantoea agglomerans) and bacterial stalk rot of maize caused by several causative agents, were described. The causative agents of these diseases are often stored and transmitted with seeds, so seed analysis for the presence of phytopathogenic bacteria is an important step in the pathogen control system. For analysis, the corn seeds that were grown in the Poltava and Kiev regions …

Activity of bacterial seed endophytes of landrace durum wheat for control of Fusarium foot rot

2022

Five bacterial endophytic isolates obtained from durum wheat seeds (landrace “Timilia reste nere”) and identified as belonging to Pantoea (isolates A1, F7, F15 and G1) and Paenibacillus (isolate B) genera on the basis of 16S rDNA gene sequences, were assayed in vitro and in vivo for their ability to inhibit Fusarium culmorum growth and the disease (Fusarium foot rot) it causes in durum wheat. All isolates significantly reduced in vitro growth of F. culmorum in comparison with the control. After 120 hours of incubation, isolates B and G1 showed the greatest mycelial growth inhibition, i.e., respectively, 76 and 74%. When durum wheat “Simeto” seeds were treated with bacterial isolates singly …

A New Species ofTelenomusHaliday (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae) Associated with Egg Batches of the Pine Processionary Moth,Thaumetopoea pityocampa(Dennis…

2009

Telenomus thaumetopoeae Buhl sp. n. is described from northeastern València (Peninsular Spain) taking as starting point females parasitizing the egg-batches of the Pine Processionary Moth, Thaumetopoea pityocampa (Dennis et Schiffermüller, 1775). Its morphological affinities with the most closely related species and parasitism data are offered.

Detection and prevention of enhanced biological phosphorus removal deterioration caused by Zoogloea overabundance.

2008

A sequencing batch reactor was operated in the conventional anaerobic-aerobic mode for enhanced biological phosphorus removal using acetate as the sole substrate. Despite the nutrients concentrations in the influent being high enough to satisfy the biological requirements, Zoogloea ramigera managed to grow in the system until it had negative effects on the process performance. The excess of exocellular polymeric material produced by this microorganism contributed to a viscous bulking phenomenon and caused important settling problems. The examination of the sludge under the microscope was a valuable tool to diagnose the cause of the imbalance in the process. The strategy adopted to avoid the…
