Resting electrocardiogram and blood pressure in young athletes and nonathletes : A 4-year follow-up

A follow-up data on electrocardiogram (ECG) and blood pressure (BP) changes in adolescent athletes are scarce. We compared ECG and BP between adolescent athletes and non-athletes in a 4-year follow-up. A total of 154 youth sports clubs (SC) in Finland and 100 secondary schools for comparison data participated in this observational follow-up study. Those who maintained or adopted SC participation are referred to as “Always athletes” (n=137), those who never participated in SC as “Never athletes” (n=108) and those who dropped out of SC during the follow-up as “Changers” (n=116). As discussed in literature, the accurate analysis of the modern co-cured joints between composite materials or between a metal and a composite material (hybrid joints) is complicated by the influence of the interface resin layer on the interface singular stress field. In such joints, in fact, there is not a proper adhesive layer and the thickness of the resin layer, that plays the role of the adhesive, is not constant due to the presence of the reinforcing fibers in the composite adherent. Chemical defences often vary within and between populations both in quantity and quality, which is puzzling if prey survival is dependent on the strength of the defence. We investigated the within- and between-population variability in chemical defence of the wood tiger moth (Arctia plantaginis). The major components of its defences, SBMP (2-sec-butyl-3-methoxypyrazine) and IBMP (2-isobutyl-3-methoxypyrazine), are volatiles that deter bird attacks. A big question in behavioural ecology is what drives diversity of colour signals. The dataset covers the testing of the context-dependent predator selection on prey coloration. In the first experiment, detectability of artificial visual stimuli to blue tits (Cyanistes caeruleus) was tested by manipulating stimulus luminance and chromatic context of the background. In the second experiment, the effect of two light environments on the survival of aposematic, colour polymorphic wood tiger moth (Arctia plantaginis) was tested. This thesis investigated 1) acute neuromuscular and hormonal responses to combined strength and endurance loadings with different orders and their long-term adaptations (women), 2) adaptations in neuromuscular, hormonal, cardiorespiratory and health variables following 24 weeks of volume-equated protocols of combined training (men and women). Työssä selvitettiin menetelmää suprajohtavien kontaktien liittämiseksi ohuen eristekerroksen avulla vahvasti n-seostettuun puolijohtavaan InAs-nanolankaan. Lisäksi tutkittiin näin luotujen tunneliliitosten soveltamista nanolankojen elektronisen lämpötilan mittaukseen ja sen jäähdyttämiseen. Nanolangat oli kasvatettu epitaksiaalisesti kultananopartikkeleiden katalysoimina, ja suprajohtavat kontaktit valmistettiin niiden päälle käyttäen tavanomaisia mikrovalmistusmenetelmiä, elektronisuihkulitografiaa ja -höyrystystystä.
