Ethological analysis of morphine withdrawal with different dependence programs in male mice.
2002
Abstract This work was performed to clarify the differences between a long or short development of morphine dependence as well as between a recently installed or a long-term dependence. Morphine withdrawal in rats is a well-characterized phenomenon but this is not so in mice. A study of the principal withdrawal signs have been performed in mice, evaluating their specificity and particular profile of appearance in each type of dependence. Mice were divided into two groups that received increasing doses of morphine every 24 h, three groups that received increasing doses of morphine twice a day for 3 days, and a control group that received saline. Naloxone-induced opiate withdrawal was evaluat…
Observaciones sobre algunos criterios tafonómicos usados en la interpretación de asociaciones malacológicas fósiles.
1984
In the present paper a revision of some taphonomic criteria commonly used in the interpretation of fossil mollusca assemblages is realized . The field work on living and death assemblages of mollusca in a shallow muddy bottom has been carried out in the coast near Denia (Alicante, Spain). Although the supposed lineal relation between specific abundance and probability of autochthony could explain the structure of part of the considered assemblages, in other a clear disagreement due to a massive incursion of youth elements in observed . By other hand, the possibility of horizontal transport not detectable by these means (anonymous alochtonic fluxes) imposes another limitation to the pretende…
The Effect of Methanolic Leaf Extract of Boerhavia diffusa Linn. (Nictaginaceae) on the Activities of Antidiabetic, Anti-inflammatory and Antioxidant…
2018
Diabetic therapeutic potentiality of methanol extract of stem leaves of Boerhavia diffusa was investigated following in-vivo study models in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat. Methanol extract of stem leaves of Boerhavia diffusa exerted the glucose lowering effect an increase in serum insulin level on 28st day of postadministration. In addition to a higher expression of insulin receptor A. The extract treatment or glibenclamide for 28 days significantly (p<0.05) reduced HbA1c. Boerhavia diffusa L. or glibenclamide for 28 days show no damaging effect on red blood count and hemoglobin when compared to the control group. Significant (p<0.05) increase in platelet count and white blood cell c…
Teorie della coercizione, antipaternalismo e autonomia contrattuale
2013
In this article, I will examine the relations between antipaternalism and coercion theories. According to antipaternalism over himself, over his body and mind, the individual is sovereign, but if his actions are rational and free of coercion. Secondly, I will clarify if the so called unconscionability doctrine about contract law is antipaternalistic or not.
Synthesis and characterization of complexes of trialkyl- and triarylphosphine gold(I) with thiolated purines and pyrimidines. A class of bifunctional…
1991
Abstract New complexes of the type R 3 PAuL or (R 3 PAu) 2 (μ-L) where R=ethyl or phenyl and L=6-thioguanine, 2, 6- dithioxanthine, 2, 4-dithiouracil and/or dithioerythritol have been prepared. These complexes have been identified by using elemental analysis, 1 H, 13 C and 31 P NMR spectroscopy. The structures have been proposed based on these spectroscopic studies. Sulfur appears to be the binding site in disubstituted complexes of 2, 4-dithiouracil and 1, 4-dithioerythritol, while the phosphine gold( I ) moieties appear to be S and N bonded in 2, 6-dithioxanthine and 6-thioguanine. The potential use of these complexes as antitumor drugs is discussed.
Lifetime egg production of captive libellulids (Odonata)
2015
The estimation of lifetime egg production (LEP) is a central question in ecology, since the number of eggs produced determines the potential size of the following generation. In this study, I tried to obtain a rough estimation of the LEPs in libellulids in outdoor cages. The main questions were: (1) does hand feeding influence females’ life history traits; (2) how long is the maturation period and the lifespan; (3) does the quality/quantity of eggs vary with female age or size; and (4) how many eggs do females lay in their lifetime? I installed two outdoor cages and kept individually marked specimens of Orthetrum coerulescens and Sympetrum striolatum under semi-natural circumstances. Orthet…
Complementary methods assessing short and long-term prey of a marine top predator ‒ Application to the grey seal-fishery conflict in the Baltic Sea.
2019
The growing grey seal (Halichoerus grypus) population in the Baltic Sea has created conflicts with local fisheries, comparable to similar emerging problems worldwide. Adequate information on the foraging habits is a requirement for responsible management of the seal population. We investigated the applicability of available dietary assessment methods by comparing morphological analysis and DNA metabarcoding of gut contents (short-term diet; n = 129/125 seals, respectively), and tissue chemical markers i.e. fatty acid (FA) profiles of blubber and stable isotopes (SIs) of liver and muscle (mid- or long-term diet; n = 108 seals for the FA and SI markers). The methods provided complementary inf…

Neuroergonomic Assessment of Hot Beverage Preparation and Consumption: An EEG and EDA Study.
2020
Neuroergonomics is an emerging field that investigates the human brain in relation to behavioral performance in natural environments and everyday settings. This study investigated the body and brain activity correlates of a typical daily activity, hot beverage preparation, and consumption in a realistic office environment where participants performed natural daily tasks. Using wearable, battery operated and wireless Electroencephalogram (EEG) and Electrodermal activity (EDA) sensors, neural and physiological responses were measured in untethered, freely moving participants who prepared hot beverages using two different machines (a market leader and follower as determined by annual US sales)…
