Neo-nervegenesis in 3D dynamic responsive implant for inguinal hernia repair. Qualitative study.

2020

Abstract Background Prosthetic repair of inguinal hernias is one of the most performed surgical procedures. Nevertheless, high rates of complications affect the surgical treatment. Implant fixation, poor-quality tissue ingrowth and mesh shrinkage seem to be involved in postoperative complications, discomfort and chronic pain following inguinal hernia repair. To address these issues a multilamellar shaped 3D dynamic responsive prosthesis has been developed. This new implant, positioned fixation-free to obliterate the hernia opening, thanks its inherent dynamic compliance during inguinal movements, has demonstrated to induce an enhanced biological response. The ingrowth of newly formed muscle…

Hybrid Coronary Percutaneous Treatment with Metallic Stents and Everolimus-Eluting Bioresorbable Vascular Scaffolds: 2-years Results from the GABI-R …

2019

The limitations of the first-generation everolimus-eluting coronary bioresorbable vascular scaffolds (BVS) have been demonstrated in several randomized controlled trials. Little data are available regarding the outcomes of patients receiving hybrid stenting with both BVS and drug-eluting stents (DES). Of 3144 patients prospectively enrolled in the GABI-Registry, 435 (age 62 &plusmn

Current Strategies for Tracheal Replacement: A Review

2021

Airway cancers have been increasing in recent years. Tracheal resection is commonly performed during surgery and is burdened from post-operative complications severely affecting quality of life. Tracheal resection is usually carried out in primary tracheal tumors or other neoplasms of the neck region. Regenerative medicine for tracheal replacement using bio-prosthesis is under current research. In recent years, attempts were made to replace and transplant human cadaver trachea. An effective vascular supply is fundamental for a successful tracheal transplantation. The use of biological scaffolds derived from decellularized tissues has the advantage of a three-dimensional structure based on t…

A regenerative 3D scaffold for inguinal hernia repair. MR imaging and histological cross evidence. Qualitative study

2021

Abstract Background Inguinal hernia is a degenerative disease occurring in a high motile surround. Stopping degeneration and promoting tissue regeneration should be the treatment goal. Groin hernias are conventionally managed with static flat meshes, mostly fixated to the delicate inguinal environment. Far from a regenerative effect, the biologic response of conventional hernia meshes is characterized by a foreign body reaction leading to a stiff/shrunken scar plate, which is often the source of unpleasant complications. Recently, a newly engineered 3D device for inguinal hernia repair – ProFlor-has been developed to produce a regenerative biological response. Unlike conventional hernia mes…

Roentgenological observations on vocal fold length-changes with special reference to register transition and open/covered voice

1992

This paper examines the length-changes of the vocal folds as a function of voice pitch. Changes in normalized vocal fold elongation (strain) were measured indirectly from calcification points in several laryngeal structures from roentgenological exposures during singing. Changes in vocal fold strain are shown to occur mainly in the register transition area, i.e. the area within which all register changes take place. Changes in vocal fold strain appeared similar in male and female subjects. Evidence for different strain patterns in covered and open singing is presented for female subjects: Strain is higher in non-singers and (“incorrect”) open voice, lower in singers and (“correct”) covered …

A tailored telephone and email based exercise intervention induced reductions in various measures of body composition in physically inactive adults: …

2018

Obesity prevalence has increased the past decades and has become a serious public health problem. The aim of this six-month assessor-blinded, parallel-group randomized controlled trial was to assess the effect of a tailored telephone and email-based exercise intervention on various measures of body composition in a sample of apparently healthy and physically inactive adults. A total of 111 volunteering adults (40–55 yr) in Southern Norway were randomly assigned to an intervention group (IG; n = 39) or a no-information control group (CG; n = 50), by random allocation numbering. The IG received feedback on their health-related physical fitness, information on guidelines and recommendations fo…

Effect of implantation technique on outcomes in patients receiving bioresorbable scaffolds in various clinical scenarios

2021

ABSTRACT Introduction and objectives: The PSP (pre-dilation, sizing and post-dilation) score, derived from the GHOST-EU registry, has evaluated the relationship between the implantation technique of bioresorbable scaffolds and the clinical outcomes. The objective was to perform an external validation of the PSP technique and to determine its effect on adverse cardiac events in various clinical and anatomical scenarios. Methods: Data from the REPARA registry (2230 patients) were used for external validation, whereas a common database combining REPARA and GHOST-EU (3250 patients) data was used to evaluate the effect of PSP technique in various clinical and anatomical scenarios. PSP-1 and PSP-…

Fixation free inguinal hernia repair with the 3D dynamic responsive prosthesis ProFlor: Features, procedural steps and long-term results

2019

Abstract Background Static and fixated meshes to repair mobile structures like the groin may seem a procedural incongruence. Inguinal hernia is described as a degenerative disease. Therefore, the objective of disease treatment should be the regeneration of wasted tissue. The fibrotic scar plate, a typical biologic response of conventional static meshes, does not represent tissue regeneration but rather a foreign body reaction. These contrasting aspects seem to be related to high complication rates of inguinal herniorrhaphy. Recent studies concerning the pathophysiology of the groin have led to the development of new concepts for repairing inguinal protrusions. A proprietary designed 3D dyna…

A microstructure based mechanical model for planar fibrous scaffolds.

2010

Cardiac valve and myocardium tissue regeneration has consistently raised interest for cell-seeded/microintegrated planar fibrous scaffolds. Electrospun constructs, decellularized tissues and collagen/fibrin gels often show a similar microstructure mainly characterized by the fibrous network topology. Microstructure based mechanical modeling enable fabrication parameters and scaffolds morphology to be related to mesomacro mechanical response. A novel approach to (1) characterize the material fibers network microarchitecture, (2) reproduce stochastically equivalent fiber network models, and (3) predict the mechanical response at meso-macro level is presented in this work. Electron micrographs…

RÓŻNORODNOŚĆ GRZYBÓW STRZĘPKOWYCH W POWIETRZU I FRAKCJI OPADAJĄCEJ NA POWIERZCHNIĘ MAGAZYNÓW ZBOŻOWYCH ORAZ W PRZECHOWYWANYM ZIARNIE ZBÓŻ

2017
