Omicidio e lesioni personali stradali

2018

Efficacy of ozonized water for the treatment of erosive oral lichen planus : a randomized controlled study

2020

Background Management of erosive Oral Lichen Planus (eOLP) is challenging. Currently, topical corticosteroids are widely used as first-line therapy, but they might be associated with side-effects and incomplete clinical response. Among non-pharmacological strategies, ozone at low medical concentration has proven to induce a mild activation of protective anti-oxidant pathways, thus exerting therapeutic effects in many inflammatory diseases. The aim of this randomized controlled study was to investigate the effectiveness of ozonized water in association with conventional topical corticosteroids for the treatment of eOLP. Material and Methods Fifty-one patients were included in the study and r…

The taint of torture and the brazilian legal system

2019

In Brazil, the practice of torture intertwines deeply with its own history. The literature on the subject has had a greater intensification on its registers during the Dictatorial Regime (1964 to 1985). In spite of the Brazilian Constitution of 1988, Brazil only makes efforts to investigate the crimes of torture of this period to comply with the provisions of the United Nations in 2011. Within this scenario, the NationalTruth Commission (Law 12.528, of November 2011) was created with the purpose of clarifying the facts and circumstances of cases concerning human rights violations, as well as the Law on Access to Information (Law 12.527 of November 2011), which have regulated the constitutio…

Mutation of the oxaloacetate decarboxylase gene of Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis impairs the growth during citrate metabolism

2007

; Aims: Citrate metabolism generates metabolic energy through the generation of a membrane potential and a pH gradient. The purpose of this work was to study the influence of oxaloacetate decarboxylase in citrate metabolism and intracellular pH maintenance in relation to acidic conditions. Methods and Results: A Lactococcus lactis oxaloacetate decarboxylase mutant [ILCitM (pFL3)] was constructed by double homologous recombination. During culture with citrate, and whatever the initial pH, the growth rate of the mutant was lower. In addition, the production of diacetyl and acetoin was altered in the mutant strain. However, our results indicated no relationship with a change in the maintenanc…

The colposcopic atlas of schistosomiasis in the lower female genital tract based on studies in Malawi, Zimbabwe, Madagascar and South Africa.

2014

Background Schistosoma (S.) haematobium is a neglected tropical disease which may affect any part of the genital tract in women. Female genital schistosomiasis (FGS) may cause abnormal vaginal discharge, contact bleeding, genital tumours, ectopic pregnancies and increased susceptibility to HIV. Symptoms may mimic those typical of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and women with genital schistosomiasis may be incorrectly diagnosed. An expert consensus meeting suggested that the following findings by visual inspection should serve as proxy indicators for the diagnosis of schistosomiasis of the lower genital tract in women from S. haematobium endemic areas: sandy patches appearing as (1) …
