Objective: Disabled people have the same right as other people to receive the health care they need, but they sometimes have difficulties to achieve it. In Castilla y Leon it has come into effect a law to guarantee Primary and Secondary Care coordination to provide dental treatment under sedation or anaesthesia to mentally disabled people who need it. Our aim is to evaluate the results of the implementation of such a law through a specific protocol in our health setting. Canalicular adenoma is an uncommon benign salivary gland neoplasm that has a marked predilection for occurrence in the upper lip. It is composed of columnar cells arranged in branching and interconnecting cords of single or double cell thick rows. This tumor has an excellent prognosis after conservative surgical treatment in all locations. In the present report we describe, using immunohistochemistry, the expression of cytokeratins (CK), S-100 protein and EMA in a canalicular adenoma that arose in the upper lip of a 55-year-old female. La metabolómica, una técnica analítica empleada en combinación con métodos estadísticos multivariables para detectar metabolitos, así como sus cambios en biofluidos y tejidos biológicos, se está convirtiendo en una herramienta muy potente para la identificación no-invasiva de biomarcadores asociados a enfermedades. En este sentido, y dado que las células cancerosas poseen fenotipos metabólicos únicos, debería ser posible desarrollar biomarcadores específicos en oncología que pudiesen ser empleados para identificar perfiles metabólicos útiles en la detección de la presencia de cáncer, en la determinación de su prognosis, y en la evaluación de los efectos de los tratamientos.
