Long-term zoobenthos variability in the Gulf of Riga in relation to climate variability
2001
Abstract Macrozoobenthos data were collected three times a year from 1979 to 1996 in the Gulf of Riga, Eastern Baltic Sea. Interannual variability of the abundance and biomass of benthic fauna at coastal and offshore areas was related to climate variability using a multivariate regression model. The results suggest that the interannual variability of macrozoobenthos biomass at the offshore station in spring is controlled by the climate variability during winter-time. No correlations to large-scale climate pattern have been detected for other seasons and for the coastal region. An analysis of river runoff, nitrogen, and phosphorus data of the River Daugava indicates that the anthropogenic in…
Strategies for improving production and purification of a recombinant protein: rP30 of Toxoplasma gondii expressed in the yeast Schizosaccharomyces p…
2007
Abstract Many problems concerned with the production and the purification of recombinant proteins must be addressed prior to launching an industrial production process. Among these problems, attention is focused on low-level expression that complicates the purification step and can jeopardise the process. The expression of a membrane protein, rP30, of Toxoplasma gondii in the yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe led to a secretion of only 0.5 μg ml−1. In order to obtain a sufficient quantity for biochemical characterization and evaluation in vitro diagnostic test development, strategies for both production and purification had to be optimized. First, the influence of four nitrogen sources (three…
Anaerobic thermophilic (55°C) treatment of TMP whitewater in reactors based on biomass attachment and entrapment
1999
Abstract Thermomechanical pulping (TMP) whitewater was treated in thermophilic (55°C) anaerobic laboratory-scale reactors using three different reactor configurations. In all reactors up to 70 % COD removals were achieved. The anaerobic hybrid reactor, composed of an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) and a filter, gave degradation rates up to 10 kg COD/m 3 d at loading rates of 15 kg COD/m 3 d and hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 3.1 hours. The anaerobic multi-stage reactor, consisting of three compartments, each packed with granular sludge and carrier elements, gave degradation rates up to 9 kg COD/m 3 d at loading rates of 15–16 kg COD/m 3 d, and HRT down to 2.6 hours. Clogging and …
Naming organic wines in French and German A Frame Semantics analysis
2019
International audience; [Context]Naming a product is giving it an identity (Lobin, 2016); when it comes to wines it is offering them, the possibility to be easily discriminated and to catch the clients’ attention. This contribution aims at analyzing the naming of organic wines in two countries: France and Germany. If naming generic wines has already been investigated especially from a lexical point of view (Herling, 2015), wine names from the organic wine industry have for the time being been left aside. In the meantime, previous studies based on authentic materials have underlined, since Lehrer, 1975, some specificities in the wine language like resorting to prototypes (Gautier & Bach, 201…
Hereditary familial polyposis and Gardner’s syndrome: Contribution of the odontostomatology examination in its diagnosis and a case description
2005

Estimation of recombinant protein production in Pichia pastoris base don a constraint-based model
2012
[EN] A previously validated constraint based model and possibilistic MFA have been used to design a simple estimator of protein production rate in Pichia pastoris cultures. A structured model of the yeast P. pastoris metabolism is used to predict the balance of key energetic equivalents such as ATP from available measurements, mainly substrate consumption, gases exchange rates and biomass specific growth. It has been shown that ATP flux can be related to biomass growth and protein productivity specific rates by linear regression. Cross-validation has been applied for robust parameter fitting on the basis of chemostat, steady-state experimental conditions. In this way, protein estimation can…
Alkali-activated mortars for sustainable construction material: effects of binder-to-aggregate ratio and curing conditions
2019
Valorisation and reuse of industrial wastes has become a worldwide compelling topic to improve the sustainability of processes and materials. This paper discusses an alternative way to recycle the biomass fly ash, generated by the kraft pulp industry, to manufacture novel geopolymeric mortars intended for applications in construction. Biomass fly ash was used as a raw material, in partial substitution of the commonly used metakaolin, natural siliceous sand as aggregate. The followed manufacture process is highly simple and reproducible. Various proportions binder to aggregate were tested to study the effect on the final mortars properties. The mortars mechanical resistance was also studied …
