A life cycle assessment of tri-generation from biomass waste: The experience of the “agro-combined” of Thibar

2020

Abstract The paper presents a life cycle assessment of energy produced by biogas obtained by biomass waste and fuelled in a tri-generation pilot plant located in Tunisia. The results, referred to 1 MJ of exergy, showed that the plant construction causes 76% of primary energy consumption and gives a contribution higher than 90% on resource depletion and ionizing radiation, and of 50% on ozone depletion. Operation causes 66% of the impact on human toxicity—cancer effects and more than 90% of the other impacts, except for ecotoxicity of freshwater mainly caused during the end of life. The study is one of the first applications of environmental analysis to tri-generation from waste in developin…

Fast MATLAB assembly of FEM matrices in 2D and 3D: Edge elements

2014

We propose an effective and flexible way to assemble finite element stiffness and mass matrices in MATLAB. We apply this for problems discretized by edge finite elements. Typical edge finite elements are Raviart-Thomas elements used in discretizations of H(div) spaces and Nedelec elements in discretizations of H(curl) spaces. We explain vectorization ideas and comment on a freely available MATLAB code which is fast and scalable with respect to time.

The cyclopentenone-type prostaglandin 15-deoxy-delta12,14-prostaglandin J2 inhibits CD95 ligand gene expression in T lymphocytes: interference with p…

2003

Abstract 15-Deoxy-Δ12,14-PGJ2 (15d-PGJ2) is a cyclopentenone-type PG endowed with anti-inflammatory properties and produced by different cells, including those of the immune system. 15d-PGJ2 is a natural ligand of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-γ nuclear receptor, but relevant PPARγ-independent actions mediated by this prostanoid have been described. Fas (APO-1/CD95) and its ligand (Fas-L) are cell surface proteins whose interaction activates apoptosis of Fas-expressing targets. In T cells, the Fas-Fas-L system regulates activation-induced cell death and has been implicated in diseases in which lymphocyte homeostasis is compromised. Moreover, several studies have desc…

Interactions micro-organismes - bois et impact sur les propriétés physico-chimiques du vin : fermentation malolactique par le biofilm de Oenococcus o…

2015

Malolactic fermentation improves wine quality, mainly by decreasing acidity. It is carried out by lactic acid bacteria, mainly Oenococcus oeni. This species is favored for its efficiency and its organoleptic outcome. O. oeni ability to withstand wine stress and to keep its fermentation activity is a subject of major interest.Samples of oak showed that O. oeni adheres to wood and is able to persist for several months in wine. However, in the majority of natural habitats, microorganisms grow attached to a surface, within a structured ecosystem called biofilm. In this form of life, cells benefit from an increased stress resistance. These two properties, adherence to a surface and stress resista…

Assisted phytostabilization of soil from a former military area with mineral amendments.

2019

Abstract Due to the presence of toxic pollutants, soils in former military areas need remedial actions with environmentally friendly methods. Greenhouse experiments were conducted to investigate the aided phytostabilization of multi-heavy metals (HMs), i.e. Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn, in post-military soil by Festuca rubra and three mineral amendments (diatomite, dolomite and halloysite). The amendments were applied at 0 and 3.0% to each pot filled with 5 kg of polluted soil. After seven weeks of the phytostabilization, selected soil properties, biomass yield of F. rubra and immobilization of HMs by their accumulation in plant and redistribution among individual fractions in soil were determine…

The diversity, biomass and production of zooplankton in Lake Inarijärvi

1982

About 650 zooplankton samples were collected from Lake Inarijarvi in 1977–1979 from the littoral and pelagial zones of the lake. One hundred and twenty-three zooplankton taxa were found and most of them can be considered euplanktonic.
