Celem tego artykułu jest zbadanie i porównanie poglądów Peirce'a i Wittgensteina na naturę znaków. Przeprowadzone badanie pokazuje, że istnieją przynajmniej cztery punkty w powyższej kwestii, co do których Peirce i Wittgenstein pozostają zgodni: triadyczna natura znaków, obecność i szczególna rola w naszych dyskursach znaków zdegenerowanych, rola reguł w konstytuowaniu znaczenia znaków, a także niezbywalna rola społeczności w tworzeniu i podtrzymywaniu procesu semiozy. Thinking the Political with Jean-Luc Nancy

In this article, I argue that at the center of Jean-Luc Nancy’s approach to the political lies the thinking of subject as that of relation. Throughout the historical actualizations of, for example, the individual, the state, or the people as a subject, the problematic of relation is one that has retreated and now demands to be subjected to a retreatment. When the arche-teleological presuppositions that constitute subject as that which is given enter the phase of deconstruction, subject comes to present itself as nothing but the activity of relating itself to itself. I respond to Nancy’s call to invent “an affirmation of relation” by way of rethinking the logics of sovereignty and democracy.…

Stalin’s critique of the idea of the class character of language

Shedding light on the different Soviet linguistic approaches to the phenomenon of the class character of language, this paper shows that Stalin’s 1950 critique of Nikolaj Marr’s views echoed criticism that had already been addressed to Marr by his contemporaries. The idea of the class character of language did not amount to a single coherent theory, in Soviet linguistics, of social and linguistic structures, but in many cases remained an abstract theoretical construct. Even if some linguists manifestly subscribed to the Marrist dogma, it did not immediately follow that the idea of the class character of language had exerted significant influence on the actual analysis of language material. …

Abstract. Only a few studies have examined the direction of associations between academic achievement, interest, and sel f-concept of ability simultaneously by using longitudinal data over several school years. To exam ine the cross-lagged relationships between students’ interest, self-concept of ability, and performance in mathematics and reading, longitudinal data from Grade 1 to Grade 7 of comprehensive school was gathered from 216 students. The results showed that, in both reading and math, performance predicted students’ subsequent self-concept of ability. Maģistra darba „Transporta un uzglabāšanas nozares ģeogrāfiskā koncentrācija un attīstības potenciāls Latvijā” mērķis ir reģionālās izaugsmes potenciāla palielināšanas iespēju pētījums, balstoties uz transporta un uzglabāšanas nozares aglomerāciju attīstību. Pētījuma rezultātā pēc absolūtās un relatīvās koncentrācijas metodes identificētas divas transporta un uzglabāšanas nozarē aglomerētās teritorijas – Rēzeknes pilsēta un novads, kā arī Ventspils pilsēta. Reģionālās attīstības potenciāla īstenošanai no pētījuma izriet, ka šajās teritorijās jāattīsta loģistikas vai distribūcijas centri.
Analysis and synthesis with a three-component inferential system : Augmenting the explanatory scope of Conceptual Spaces

The study introduces a model of analysis and synthesis, respective abductive and deductive reasoning, using the three-component inferential system, which is constituted by a perspective-relative augmentation of Gärdenfors’s theory of Conceptual Spaces (CS). A general formulation of Perspective, based on our earlier work, corresponds to prioritization among property dimensions. Instead of assuming one conceptual space as in the CS, a distinction is made between the high-dimensional description of the discourse/domain termed Ontospace, and the two-dimensional perspectival space onto which a Perspectiverelative hierarchical conceptualization is projected, referred to as the Perspectival Space.…
A Scale of Knowledge and Beliefs about Developmental Dyslexia: Scale Development and Validation

Abstract The purpose of this study was to create and validate a scale measuring knowledge and beliefs regarding developmental dyslexia. A four-step procedure was followed to achieve this objective. A literature review generated a preliminary pool of 65 items. A group of 12 university teachers of learning disabilities read the items for content and face validity and offered comments. Based on their comments, some items were combined, and confusing items were changed or eliminated, which left a scale of 50 items, with the response options of true (V), false (F) or dont know (NS). We question the effectiveness of the two learning methods to acquire scientific knowledge and to modify learner conceptions. Do explicit instruction and structured inquiry methods have the same impact on the learning of science?
