Effect of three edible oils on the intestinal absorption of caffeic acid: An in vivo and in vitro study.

Polyphenolic antioxidants are mainly absorbed through passive paracellular permeation regulated by tight junctions. Some fatty acids are known to modulate tight junctions. Fatty acids resulting from the digestion of edible oils may improve the absorption of polyphenolic antioxidants. Therefore, we explored the effect of three edible oils on the intestinal absorption of caffeic acid. Rats were fed with soybean oil and caffeic acid dissolved in distilled water. We previously reported an association of the single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs2549782 in the endoplasmic reticulum aminopeptidase 2 gene (ERAP2) with AS. Previous studies indicate a role of CDKN2A/2B/2BAS genes in atherosclerosis and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Progression of these diseases is accompanied by T-cell imbalance and chronic inflammation. Our main objective was to investigate a potential association between CDKN2A/2B/2BAS gene expression and T cell phenotype in T2DM and coronary artery disease (CAD) in humans, and to explore the therapeutic potential of these genes to restore immune cell homeostasis and disease progression. Monocyte preseeding leads to an increased implant bed vascularization of biphasic calcium phosphate bone substitutes via vessel maturation

The present study analyzes the influence of the addition of monocytes to a biphasic bone substitute with two granule sizes (400-700 μm and 500-1000 μm). The majority of the added monocytes was detectable as mononuclear cells, while also low amounts of (chimeric) multinucleated giant cells (MNGCs) were found. No increase in the total number of MNGCs was established, but a significantly increased percent vascularization. Altogether, the results show that the added monocytes become involved in the tissue response to a biomaterial without marked changes in the overall reaction. The oxidation-induced DNA modification 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-oxodG) was recently implicated in the activation and repression of gene transcription. We aimed at a systematic characterisation of the impacts of 8-oxodG on the activity of a GC box placed upstream from the RNA polymerase II core promoter.
