Interactions of different hydrocolloids with milk proteins

2020

Abstract To control rheological properties and accomplish perfect sensory properties and mouthfeel, polysaccharides are added to milk-based beverages. However, in contrast to expectations, it is often found that adding low concentrations of xanthan gum or guar gum to milk provokes phase separations of unclear physical origin. From this observation, questions arise regarding the interaction of added polysaccharides and the proteins present in milk – caseins and whey proteins. The focus of this study is to investigate such systems and to understand the basic interactions of caseins and whey proteins with different hydrocolloids. The hydrocolloids used in this study are xanthan gum, guar gum, …

A new interferometer has been designed in order to perform measurements of refractive indices and refractive index increments on liquid systems under elevated pressure at different temperatures. The method of measurement, the calibration of the instrument and the treatment of data are described. With a series of test measurements on trans-decalin it is shown that with this instrument reliable results are obtained.

An improved molecular design of obtaining NLO active molecular glasses using triphenyl moieties as amorphous phase formation enhancers

2012

New molecular design of obtaining molecular glasses has been developed by linking triphenylmethyl moieties to chromophore core by flexible C-C bridge. Compounds capable of forming stable amorphous phase with good optical quality have been acquired with increased chemical and thermal sustainability compared to the previously reported design. NLO activity of compounds has been measured after corona discharge polling. Compared to previously synthesized trityloxy fragment containing compounds increase of d 33 coefficient by up to 17 times was achieved for the same chromophore core containing compounds.

Rotational spectra of isotopic species of silyl fluoride. Part II: theoretical and empirical equilibrium structure

2010

Abstract The equilibrium structure of silyl fluoride, SiH 3 F, has been reinvestigated using both theoretical and experimental data. With respect to the former, quantum-chemical calculations at the coupled-cluster level have been employed together with extrapolation to the basis set limit, consideration of higher excitations in the cluster operator, and inclusion of core correlation as well as relativistic corrections ( r (Si–F) = 1.5911 A, r (Si–H) = 1.4695 A, and ∠FSiH = 108.30°). A semi-experimental equilibrium structure has been determined based on the available rotational constants for the various isotopic species of silyl fluoride ( 28 SiH 3 F, 28 SiD 3 F, 29 SiH 3 F, 29 SiD 3 F, 30 S…

Besides their classical and well-known applications as, e.g., dyes, pigments, catalysts, etc. [1], phthalocyanines (Pc’s) have been of particular interest in many fields of basic and applied research concerning solar cells [2], photosensitizers [3], low dimensional metals [4], gas sensors [5], electrochromism [6], Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films [7], and nonlinear optics [8]. As an example, gas sensors [9], electronic devices [10], laser recording materials [11], and photovoltaic cells [12] can now be built from LB films of phthalocyanines. This great variety of interesting applications results from a number of unique properties that phthalocyanines exhibit On the one hand, they show an except…

3.5-μm bandwidth mid-infrared supercontinuum generation in a 2-cm long suspended-core chalcogenide fiber

2014

A supercontinuum source extending from 0.6 to 4.1 µm has been successfully generated in a 2-cm long As2S3 chalcogenide suspended-core fiber by means of a nJ-level 200-fs pumping at 2.5 µm.

Surface periodic poling in congruent lithium tantalate

2006

The first demonstration of surface periodic poling of lithium tantalate at high voltages is reported. Periodic domain inversion with mark-to-space ratios close to the optimum 50:50 was successfully achieved down to micrometre periods with good uniformity and repeatability.

Inverse dispersion design in silicon waveguides

2014

We present a numerical tool to find the cross-section geometry of silicon-oninsulator waveguides that leads to a target dispersion profile. In < 10 iterations, we achieve geometries providing ultraflattened dispersion over 350 nm bandwidth.
