ABSTRACT Aim: As part of the Catania symposium on lung metastasectomy we reviewed our practice of computed tomography (CT)-guided percutaneous transthoracic needle biopsy of pulmonary metastatic lesions with particular emphasis on diagnostic accuracy and nature of complications lesions. Materials & methods: 25 patients with metastatic lesions of the lung have been evaluated between May 2010 and February 2014. Inclusion criteria consisted of patients with histologically confirmed, metastatic disease of the lung, those receiving a CT-guided needle biopsy, were at least 18 years of age; and with adequate hepatic, renal and hematological function. Ischemic cardiac diseases are the most frequent and deleterious pathologies leading to important cardiovascular-related mortality worldwide. One of the alternative therapies consists to treat these patients using cardiac surgery. Cardiopulmonary bypass was developed to greatly improve this surgical procedure. However, some adverse effects can occur during cardiac surgery associated with cardiopulmonary bypass due to the inflammatory response. Abstract: Id1 promotes carcinogenesis and metastasis, and predicts prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)-adenocarcionoma patients. We hypothesized that Id1 may play a critical role in lung cancer colonization of the liver by affecting both tumor cells and the microenvironment. Depleted levels of Id1 in LLC (Lewis lung carcinoma cells, LLC shId1) significantly reduced cell proliferation and migration in vitro. Genetic loss of Id1 in the host tissue (Id1(-/-) mice) impaired liver colonization and increased survival of Id1 animals. ResumenLa evidencia previa nacional e internacional muestra la infravaloración de las empresas que salen a bolsa a través de una Oferta Pública Inicial (OPI). Este trabajo tiene como objetivo estudiar si este fenómeno también se da en las empresas de carácter familiar y si existen diferencias significativas en la infravaloración respecto de las empresas no familiares. Para ello, analizamos una muestra formada por 59 empresas españolas que iniciaron su cotización en el mercado bursátil español por medio de una OPI en el periodo 1994-2012. [EN] Innocampus Explora aims to show the students of the Burjassot-Paterna campus of the Universitat de València how the different scientific degrees are interrelated. To do this we propose activities in which students and teachers work together to cover the interdisciplinary nature of science, both in everyday and professional issues. Throughout this course the activities developed relate to new ways to communicate science. With the development of this project we contribute to a transversal quality education for all the participating students.

[EN] This service learning collaboration combines community service with academic learning. With that purpose, a collaboration network was created between the University of Valencia and Escola Gavina, a preschool, primary and secondary school. The objective was twofold, first, it attempts to give postgraduate students the opportunity to carry out a diagnostic of the inter-organizational relations of Escola Gavina. This objective is pursued through collaboration between different entities, which is one of the basis of service learning.
