α-Adrenoceptor Interaction of Tetrandrine and Isotetrandrine in the Rat: Functional and Binding Assays

Abstract The action of 1S,1′S-tetrandrine, a bisbenzyltetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloid, on α1-adrenoceptors has been compared with that of its isomer 1R,1′S-isotetrandrine. The work includes binding assays to analyse the affinity of these products for the [3H]prazosin binding site of rat cerebral cortical membranes and functional studies on rat isolated aorta to examine the effects of both alkaloids on intracellular calcium processes related or not to α-adrenoceptor activation. A radioligand receptor-binding study showed that both compounds interacted with the α1-adrenoceptors displacing [3H]prazosin from the specific binding site. Bone metastasis is a frequent and early complication of breast cancer. This case report describes a technique for a partial exeresis of the sternum and the reconstruction of the pleura with autologous dermis from the lower abdomen and the loss of substance with a myocutaneous flap.We describe the case of a 50-year old woman with a sternal excavated lesion with pathologic fracture due to an invasive adenocarcinoma, treated with a partial exeresis of the sternum and the reconstruction with a myocutaneous flap.The patient doesn't show evidence of recurrent disease and the stability of her chest well preserved.Metastatic breast cancer to the sternum, if detected early and treated aggressively, …

Mucoid impaction and plastic bronchitis are relatively rare disorders affecting patients of any age. Here we report the case of mucoid impaction developing in a four-year-old child as a complication of pneumonic infection treated four weeks prior. p.a. chest X-ray and fiberoptic bronchoscopy showed atelectasis and the location of a mucus cast in the left upper lobe. After extraction of the cast via the suction channel of the bronchoscope had failed, we administered 2.5 mg of undiluted recombinant human deoxyribonuclease (rhDNase) instilled directly over the affected area of occlusion for 15 minutes. This mucolytic agent mobilized the cast by reducing viscoelasticity and adherence of mucus. …

(OBJECTIVE) Jacobeus and Bethune performed thoracoscopy under local anaesthesia, already on early 1900. A single access associated with local anaesthesia aims to improve procedure tolerance, shorten recovery and reduce costs. (METHODS) Premedication consists of atropine 0.01 mg/kg and midazolam (0,02-0.04 mg/kg). Pain control and sedation was obtained by remifentanile (0.05-0.1 mcg/kg/min). Local anaesthesia was made with lidocaine and ropivacaine. An incision of 20 mm is realised at 6° intercostal space for the “single-access-technique”, and two incisions for the “2-trocars-technique” (15 mm at 5°space - 10 mm at 6°/7°space). [EN] The archaeological excavations that have been carried out in the Hispano-Roman city of Valeria have exhumed the remains of a thermal complex from the 1st century AD that it was in service for four centuries and that, after its abandonment, it was barely spoiled for its constructive and decorative materials.
