Effects of the dual sodium-glucose linked transporter inhibitor, licogliflozinvsplacebo or empagliflozin in patients with type 2 diabetes and heart f…
2020
Aims Explore the efficacy, safety and tolerability of the dual sodium-glucose cotransporter (SGLT) 1 and 2 inhibitor, licogliflozin in patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and heart failure. Methods This multicentre, parallel-group phase IIA study randomized 125 patients with T2DM and heart failure (New York Heart Association II-IV; plasma N-terminal pro b-type natriuretic peptide [NT-proBNP] >300 pg/mL) to licogliflozin (2.5 mg, 10 mg, 50 mg) taken at bedtime, empagliflozin (25 mg) or placebo (44 patients completed the study). The primary endpoint was change from baseline in NT-proBNP after 12 weeks. Secondary endpoints included change from baseline in glycated haemoglobin, fas…

G2(MP2) Investigation of Alane-[X(CH3)3]- (X = C, Si, and Ge) and Alane-Y(CH3)3 (Y = N, P, and As) Interactions
2001
Alane-[X(CH3)3]- (X = C, Si, and Ge) and alane-Y(CH3)3 (Y = N, P, and As) have been investigated as donor−acceptor complex types at the G2(MP2) level of theory. The results show that the anionic complexes are more stable than the neutral ones. They show also that this stability decreases when going from carbon to germanium for [H3AlX(CH3)3]- complexes and from nitrogen to arsenic for H3AlY(CH3)3 complexes. The interaction diagrams prove that the evolution of complexation energy depends on the coordination mode. In fact, it is a result of two interaction types: interaction between “a1” symmetry fragment molecular orbital (stabilizing) and interactions between “e” symmetry fragment molecular…
An ab initio study of the tautomeric equilibria of the N-oxides of hydroxypyridines in the vapour phase
1993
Abstract An ab initio self-consistent field molecular orbital study of the N-oxides of hydroxypyridines has been carried out. The optimized structures have been obtained at the 6-31G ∗ level, and the energy values have been computed at the 6-31G ∗ and MP2-6-31G ∗ //6-31G ∗ levels. The tautomerization energies for the three couples of systems in the vapour phase have been evaluated.
Experimental and theoretical studies of the molecular and crystal structures of trialkoxy- and chlorodialkoxy-stibanes
2001
The molecular structures of triisopropoxystibane, Sb((OPr)-Pr-i)(3), and chlorodiisopropoxystibane, SbCl((OPr)-Pr-i)(2), were determined in the solid state by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Sb((OPr)-Pr-i)(3) forms discrete centrosymmetric dimers in the solid state via Sb . . .O-Sb interactions, leading to pseudo trigonal bipyramidal configurations of the four co-ordinate Sb atoms, while SbCl((OPr)-Pr-i)(2) forms chains via Sb . . .O-Sb and Sb . . . Cl-Sb bridges, resulting in five-co-ordinate Sb atoms with pseudo octahedral configurations. Comparison of the solid state structures and the density functional optimized molecular structures of Sb(OMe)(3), SbCl(OMe)(2) and their dimers reveal…
Bipolar disorder: A neural network perspective on a disorder of emotion and motivation
2013
Bipolar disorder (BD) is a severe, chronic disease with a heritability of 60-80%. BD is frequently misdiagnosed due to phenomenological overlap with other psychopathologies, an important issue that calls for the identification of biological and psychological vulnerability and disease markers. Altered structural and functional connectivity, mainly between limbic and prefrontal brain areas, have been proposed to underlie emotional and motivational dysregulation in BD and might represent relevant vulnerability and disease markers. In the present laboratory review we discuss functional and structural neuroimaging findings on emotional and motivational dysregulation from our research group in BD…
Subharmonic and homoclinic bifurcations in the driven and damped sine-Gordon system
1999
Abstract Chaotic responses induced by an applied biharmonic driven signal on the sine-Gordon (sG) system influenced by a constant dc-driven and the damping fields are investigated using a collective coordinate approach for the motion of the breather in the system. For this biharmonic signal, one term has a large amplitude at low frequency. Thus, the classical Melnikov method does not apply to such a system; however, we use the modified version of the Melnikov method to homoclinic bifurcations of the perturbed sG system. Additionally resonant breathers are studied using the modified subharmonic Melnikov theory. This dynamic behavior is illustrated by some numerical computations.
Spectroscopic Observations of the Delta Scorpii Binary during Its Recent Periastron Passage
2001
The bright star delta Sco has been considered a typical B0-type object for many years. Spectra of the star published prior to 1990 showed no evidence of emission, but only of short-term line profile variations attributed to nonradial pulsations. Speckle interferometric observations show that delta Sco is a binary system with a highly-eccentric orbit and a period of 10.6 years. Weak emission in the H-alpha line was detected in its spectrum for the first time during a periastron passage in 1990. Shortly before the next periastron passage in the summer of 2000, the binary entered a strong H-alpha emission and enhanced mass loss phase. We monitored the spectroscopic development of the Be outbur…
First M87 Event Horizon Telescope Results. IV. Imaging the Central Supermassive Black Hole
2019
We present the first Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) images of M87, using observations from April 2017 at 1.3 mm wavelength. These images show a prominent ring with a diameter of ~40 μas, consistent with the size and shape of the lensed photon orbit encircling the "shadow" of a supermassive black hole. The ring is persistent across four observing nights and shows enhanced brightness in the south. To assess the reliability of these results, we implemented a two-stage imaging procedure. In the first stage, four teams, each blind to the others' work, produced images of M87 using both an established method (CLEAN) and a newer technique (regularized maximum likelihood). This stage allowed us to av…
The large-scale magnetic field of the eccentric pre-main-sequence binary system V1878 Ori
2020
We report time-resolved, high-resolution optical spectropolarimetric observations of the young double-lined spectroscopic binary V1878 Ori. Our observations were collected with the ESPaDOnS spectropolarimeter at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope through the BinaMIcS large programme. V1878 Ori A and B are partially convective intermediate mass weak-line T Tauri stars on an eccentric and asynchronous orbit. We also acquired X-ray observations at periastron and outside periastron. Using the least-squares deconvolution technique (LSD) to combine information from many spectral lines, we clearly detected circular polarization signals in both components throughout the orbit. We refined the orbita…
