Clay-biosurfactant materials as functional drug delivery systems: Slowing down effect in the in vitro release of cinnamic acid

2017

Abstract The main objectives of the present paper were the preparation and characterization of new surfactant-modified clays and the evaluation of their potential applicability as drug delivery systems for the oral administration of the cinnamic acid (CA) drug. The organoclays (OC) were prepared by loading different amounts of the biocompatible nonionic polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate surfactant (Tween20) onto K10 montmorillonite (Mt) clay and characterized through the construction of the adsorption isotherms by means of the spectrophotometric method. The performance of the prepared material was verified by gathering the adsorption isotherms of the cinnamic acid onto the Mt/Tween20 org…

Retrospective screening of pesticide metabolites in ambient air using liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry

2015

A new methodology for the retrospective screening of pesticide metabolites in ambient air was developed, using liquid chromatography coupled to Orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS), including two systematic workflows (i) post-run target screening (suspect screening) and (ii) non-target screening. An accurate-mass database was built and used for the post-run screening analysis. The database contained 240 pesticide metabolites found in different matrixes such as air, soil, water, plants, animals and humans. For non-target analysis, a "fragmentation-degradation" relationship strategy was selected. The proposed methodology was applied to 31 air samples (PM10) collected in the…

Target analysis of primary aromatic amines combined with a comprehensive screening of migrating substances in kitchen utensils by liquid chromatograp…

2015

An analytical strategy including both the quantitative target analysis of 8 regulated primary aromatic amines (PAAs), as well as a comprehensive post-run target screening of 77 migrating substances, was developed for nylon utensils, using liquid chromatography-orbitrap-high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) operating in full scan mode. The accurate mass data were acquired with a resolving power of 50,000 FWHM (scan speed, 2 Hz), and by alternating two acquisition events, ESI+ with and without fragmentation. The target method was validated after statistical optimization of the main ionization and fragmentation parameters. The quantitative method presented appropriate performance to be u…

Urban organic aerosol composition in Eastern China differs from North to South: Molecular insight from a liquid chromatography-Orbitrap mass spectrom…

2019

Particulate air pollution in China is influencing human health, ecosystem and climate. However, the chemical composition of particulate aerosol, especially of the organic fraction, is still not well understood. In this study, particulate aerosol samples with a diameter ≤ 2.5 μm (PM2.5) were collected in January 2014 in three cities located in Northeast, East and Southeast China, i.e., Changchun, Shanghai and Guangzhou, respectively. Organic aerosol (OA) in the PM2.5 samples was analyzed by ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) coupled to high-resolution Orbitrap mass spectrometry in both negative mode (ESI−) and positive mode electrospray ioni…

Ferromagnetic coupling and magnetic anisotropy in oxalato-bridged trinuclear chromium(iii)-cobalt(ii) complexes with aromatic diimine ligands

2010

Two novel heterotrinuclear chromium(III)-cobalt(II) complexes of formula {[Cr(III)(bpy)(ox)(2)](2)Co(II)(Me(2)bpy)}.2H(2)O (1) and {[Cr(III)(phen)(ox)(2)](2)Co(II)(Me(2)bpy)}.1.5H(2)O (2) [ox = oxalato, bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine, Me(2)bpy = 6,6'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine, and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline] have been synthesized using the "complex-as-ligand/complex-as-metal" strategy. The X-ray crystal structure of 2 consists of neutral oxalato-bridged Cr(III)(2)Co(II) bent entities formed by the coordination of two anionic [Cr(III)(phen)(ox)(2)](-) complexes through one of their oxalato groups toward a cationic cis-[Co(II)(Me(2)bpy)](2+) complex. The three tris(chelated), six-coordinated metal atom…

Heteroclinic contours and self-replicated solitary waves in a reaction–diffusion lattice with complex threshold excitation

2008

Abstract The space–time dynamics of the network system modeling collective behavior of electrically coupled nonlinear cells is investigated. The dynamics of a local cell is described by the FitzHugh–Nagumo system with complex threshold excitation. Heteroclinic orbits defining traveling wave front solutions are investigated in a moving frame system. A heteroclinic contour formed by separatrix manifolds of two saddle-foci is found in the phase space. The existence of such structure indicates the appearance of complex wave patterns in the network. Such solutions have been confirmed and analyzed numerically. Complex homoclinic orbits found in the neighborhood of the heteroclinic contour define …

Determination of pharmaceutical residues in wastewater using high performance liquid chromatography coupled to quadrupole-Orbitrap mass spectrometry

2016

Abstract A multi-class method for the determination of 24 emerging pharmaceutical residues has been developed and validated. The method is based on solid-phase extraction of wastewater samples using Strata-X cartridges followed by high performance liquid chromatography coupled to hybrid quadrupole − Orbitrap high resolution mass spectrometry (HPLC-Q-Orbitrap-HRMS). A single-laboratory validation procedure showed satisfactory analytical performance. The analysis of 21 samples collected at the wastewater treatment plant in Riga revealed the occurrence of 20 compounds of different therapeutic classes. The highest concentration was found for the central nervous system stimulator caffeine − up t…

Periodic Orbits in the Isosceles Three-Body Problem

1991

The Saturn’s satellites Janus and Epimetheus are the first known bodies in the Solar System that has horseshoe orbits in a frame that rotates with uniform angular velocity. Both satellites have similar masses and orbital elements when they are far from one another. Moreover, their orbits are nearly symmetric. In fact, in the past, they have been identify as a unique satellite and afterwards, some mathematical theories about their orbits has been necessaries to understand why they do not collide. In particular, the interest in planar three-body problem with two small masses has increased6. We assume that the two small masses have similar symmetric initial conditions. The aim of this paper is…

Some Hadamard designs with parameters (71,35,17)

2002

Up to isomorphisms there are precisely eight symmetric designs with parameters (71, 35, 17) admitting a faithful action of a Frobenius group of order 21 in such a way that an element of order 3 fixes precisely 11 points. Five of these designs have 84 and three have 420 as the order of the full automorphism group G. If |G| = 420, then the structure of G is unique and we have G = (Frob21 × Z5):Z4. In this case Z(G) = 〈1〉, G′ has order 35, and G induces an automorphism group of order 6 of Z7. If |G| = 84, then Z(G) is of order 2, and in precisely one case a Sylow 2-subgroup is elementary abelian. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Combin Designs 10: 144–149, 2002; DOI 10.1002/jcd.996
