Segmentation Integrating Watershed and Shape Priors Applied to Cardiac Delayed Enhancement MR Images
2017
International audience; Background: In recent years, there has been a rapid rise in the use of shape priors applied to segmentation process of medical images. Previous approaches on left ventricle segmentation from Delayed-Enhancement Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DE-MRI) have focused on the extraction of myocardium or just diseased region in short axis orientation. However these studies did not take into account the segmentation of non-diseased myocardium from DE-MRI. The segmentation of non-diseased myocardium from DE-MRI, has some useful applications. For instance it can simplify the PET-MR registration process. Methods: This paper presents a novel semi-automatic segmentation method of non-…
Evaluation of the ARCore Indoor Localization Technology
2020
Augmented reality has become a very powerful tool nowadays. With the recent technological advance, smartphones have the ability to display augmented content on the screen. What makes the difference is the naturalness with which the multimedia content is superimposed over the video stream acquired with the phone's camera. This perfect overlay depends on the accurate estimation of the position and orientation of the smartphone's camera relative to the 3D representation of the space. ARCore is an augmented reality framework that computes the position and orientation of the smartphone. In order to assess the possibility of integrating ARCore within a virtual and augmented reality platform, we e…
Faking personality profiles on a standard personality inventory
2009
Abstract A study is reported which investigates the fakeability of personality profiles as measured by a standard personality inventory, the Freiburger Personlichkeitsinventar (FPI). Unlike previous studies investigating laypersons' ability to fake a global good or bad impression, the present study examined individuals' ability to fake a specific personality profile. Four groups of subjects were instructed to fake their FPI scores so as to present themselves as high vs low scorers on the “social orientation” dimension or high vs low scorers on the “achievement orientation” dimension. The results clearly demonstrate that subjects are successful in manipulating their scores on the critical di…
3D and multispectral imaging for subcutaneous veins detection.
2009
The first and perhaps most important phase of a surgical procedure is the insertion of an intravenous (IV) catheter. Currently, this is performed manually by trained personnel. In some visions of future operating rooms, however, this process is to be replaced by an automated system. Experiments to determine the best NIR wavelengths to optimize vein contrast for physiological differences such as skin tone and/or the presence of hair on the arm or wrist surface are presented. For illumination our system is composed of a mercury arc lamp coupled to a 10nm band-pass spectrometer. A structured lighting system is also coupled to our multispectral system in order to provide 3D information of the p…
Fluids of hard ellipsoids: Phase diagram including a nematic instability from Percus-Yevick theory
1999
An important aspect of molecular fluids is the relation between orientation and translation parts of the two-particle correlations. Especially the detailed knowledge of the influence of orientation correlations is needed to explain and calculate in detail the occurrence of a nematic phase. The simplest model system which shows both orientation and translation correlations is a system of hard ellipsoids. We investigate an isotropic fluid formed of hard ellipsoids with Percus-Yevick theory. Solving the Percus-Yevick equations self-consistently in the high density regime gives a clear criterion for a nematic instability. We calculate in detail the equilibrium phase diagram for a fluid of hard …
INDIVIDUAL FUTURE ORIENTATION AND DEMOGRAPHIC FACTORS PREDICTING LIFE SATISFACTION
2017
This study explored a model of prediction of life satisfaction by individual future orientation (FO) and demographic factors. Individual views of the future and goals are closely associated with well-being. Theories of FO represent different approaches to its conceptualization. Following Seginer (2009), this study presents a combination of motivational, cognitive, and behavioral components of FO. Participants were 130 females and 75 males from 18 to 49. A new measure of individual FO (the Individual Future Orientation Scale, IFOS) and the Satisfaction With Life Scale (Diener, Emmons, Larsen, & Griffin, 1985) were used for the assessment. The results of structural equation modeling demon…
Ferroelasticity and glass-like behavior in alkali halide-alkali cyanide mixed crystals
1991
Abstract Single crystal neutron diffraction studies in (KBr)1-x(KCN)x are summarized. Mixed crystals with CN− concentrations x > 0.6 exhibit ferroelastic phase transitions from a high-temperature plastic phase into a low-temperature elastically ordered phase in which the CN− orientations show long range orientational order and the center of mass lattice exhibits shear distortions. For concentrations x ≤ 0.6 orientational disorder is frozen-in and transitions into an orientational glass state occur. Close to the critical concentration xc ∼ 0.6 the diffraction profiles at the transition temperatures are dominated by diffuse-scattering contributions. These results are compared to model calcula…
Structure solution of zeolites by automated electron diffraction tomography - Impact and treatment of preferential orientation
2014
Abstract In this paper the reliability of structure solution of nano-crystalline porous compounds with preferred orientation based on automated electron diffraction tomography (ADT) is discussed. It will be shown that the limitations of the data acquisition geometry can be overcome by completing the missing diffraction data with additional diffraction information. Apart from different ways of sample preparation, data merging with either additional ADT data sets or intensities derived from X-ray powder diffraction comprise an effective way to improve the accuracy of the structure solution.
2D:4D in Men Is Related to Aggressive Dominance but Not to Sociable Dominance
2012
It has been shown that a smaller ratio between the length of the second and fourth digit (2D:4D) is an indicator of the exposure to prenatal testosterone (T). This study measured the 2D:4D of men and assessed dominance as a personality trait to investigate indirectly if the exposure to prenatal T is related to a dominant personality later in life. Results showed that men had a more aggressive dominant personality when having a more masculine (lower) 2D:4D, while there was no relationship between sociable dominance and 2D:4D. Findings from this study indicate that it is important to distinguish different forms of dominance since other studies failed to find relationships between dominance an…
Korkeakouludiplomi : kokeiluhankkeen seuranta- ja arviointitutkimuksen väliraportti
2015
