Two-Photon Absorption Properties and Structures of BODIPY and Its Dyad, Triad and Tetrad.

A series consisting of a dyad, a triad and a tetrad containing either two, three and four BODIPY units, respectively, has been synthesized and fully characterized and compared to two mono-BODIPY analogs (used as references). The one- and two-photon photophysical properties have been measured and the X-ray structures of four of the BODIPY derivatives have been determined. In the 700-900 nm range, the two-photon absorption (TPA) cross sections range from 30 GM to 160 GM for these compounds.
High-Pressure Behavior of Nickel Sulfate Monohydrate: Isothermal Compressibility, Structural Polymorphism, and Transition Pathway

Single crystals of synthetic nickel sulfate monohydrate, α-NiSO4·H2O (space-group symmetry C2/c at ambient conditions), were subject to high-pressure behavior investigations in a diamond-anvil cell up to 10.8 GPa. By means of subtle spectral changes in Raman spectra recorded at 298 K on isothermal compression, two discontinuities were identified at 2.47(1) and 6.5(5) GPa. Both transitions turn out to be apparently second order in character, as deduced from the continuous evolution of unit-cell volumes determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Insight into the Mechanism of Water Adsorption/Desorption in Hydrophilic Viologen-Carboxylate Based PCP

A water stable and highly hydrophilic porous coordination polymer based on viologen-carboxylate type ligand, the 4,4′-bipyridinium,1,1-bis(3-carboxyphenyl) (pc2), is obtained by the solvothermal method: [Cd3(pc2) (BTC)2(H2O)2]·6H2O ([1(H2O)2]·6H2O; BTC3– = 1,3,5-carboxybenzene). Its crystal structure and the ones of two partially dehydrated phases have been determined, allowing insight into the mechanism of water adsorption/desorption of this PCP material. It is shown that the dehydrated compound [1] first adsorbs two water molecules which fill the pores, leading to [1]·2H2O. Hierarchical Beta zeolites obtained from concentrated reaction mixtures (H2O/Si = 2.5–7.0) in the presence of CTAB and their conventional and nanosponge analogues were investigated in a one-pot cascade environmentally friendly Prins–Friedel–Crafts reaction of butyraldehyde with 3-buten-1-ol and anisole under mild conditions (60 °C). Subphthalocyanine basicity: reversible protonation at the azomethine bridge

International audience; Subphthalocyanine (SubPc) could be reversibly protonated at the azomethine bridge. This phenomenon was examined by addressing the pKa of the acid (TFA, MSA, TMSA) and the SubPc electron-withdrawing properties of the peripheral isoindolic substituents (F12 vs. H12 and NO2), which tunes the basic character of the azomethine moiety. The protonation of up to three azomethines was suggested and monitored spectrophotometrically with the appearance of new absorption bands at 610, 630 nm and 660 nm, together with marked colour changes from purple to blue to green. Insights into the crystal packing of phosphorylporphyrins based on the topology of their intermolecular interaction energies

Four metal complexes of 5,15-bis(diethoxyphosphoryl)-10,20-diphenylporphyrin 1M (M = Cd(II), Ni(II), Pd(II), and Pt(II)) were synthesized and crystallographically characterized. The crystal organization patterns were analyzed using DFT (B97-D3/def2-SVP) calculations of the intermolecular interaction energies between complexes in the crystals. For the systematic analysis of crystal packing, the calculations were extended to previously reported compounds 1M (M = H2, Cu(II), and Zn(II)). Controlled modulation of the spin-crossover (SCO) behavior through the sorption-desorption of invited molecules is an extensively exploited topic because of its potential applications in molecular sensing. For this purpose, understanding the mechanisms by which the spin-switching properties are altered by guest molecules is of paramount importance.
