Driven harmonic oscillators in the adiabatic Magnus approximation

1993

The time evolution of driven harmonic oscillators is determined by applying the Magnus expansion in the basis set of instantaneous eigenstates of the total Hamiltonian. It is shown that the first-order approximation already provides transition probabilities close to the exact values even in the intermediate regime.

Pulsating Solitons in Mode-Locked Fibre Lasers

2017

International audience; We report on our direct experimental observation of a new regime of operation of passively mode-locked fibre lasers where the laser oscillator generates pulsating solitons with extreme ratios of maximal to minimal intensities in each period of pulsations. The soliton spectra also experience large periodic broadening and compression. Spatio-temporal intensity and dispersive Fourier-transformation measurements enable us to capture such transient dynamics in real time.

Nonlinear parametric resonances in quasiperiodic dispersion oscillating fibers

2015

We numerically study the evolution of the spectrum of parametric resonance or modulation instability sidebands in quasiperiodic dispersion oscillating fibers. We separately consider a linear variation along the fiber of either the spatial period, the average dispersion, or the amplitude of the dispersion oscillation. We found that this linear variation of the dispersion oscillating fiber parameters may provide different novel mechanisms for the splitting of the resonance sideband spectrum, owing to coherent interference between quasi-resonant waves that are generated at different points along the fiber. Nonlinear spectrum broadening cancellation by sinusoidal phase modulation

2017

International audience; We propose and experimentally demonstrate a new approach to dramatically reduce the spectral broadening induced by self-phase modulation occurring in a Kerr medium. By using a temporal sinusoidal phase modulation, we efficiently cancel to a large extend the chirp induced by the nonlinear effect. Experimental validation carried out in a passive or amplifying fiber confirm the interest of the technic for the mitigation of spectral expansion of long pulses.

Phase Noise and Frequency Stability of the Red-Pitaya Internal PLL

2019

In field-programmable gate array platforms, the main clock is generally a low-cost quartz oscillator whose stability is of the order of $10^{-9}$ to $10^{-10}$ in the short term and $10^{-7}$ to $10^{-8}$ in the medium term, with the uncertainty of tens of ppm. Better stability is achieved by feeding an external reference into the internal phase-locked loop (PLL). We report the noise characterization of the internal PLL of Red-Pitaya platform, an open-source embedded system architected around the Zynq 7010 System on Chip, with analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters. Our experiments show that, providing an external 10-MHz reference, the PLL exhibits a residual frequency stability…

Cross-Spectrum PM Noise Measurement, Thermal Energy, and Metamaterial Filters.

2017

International audience; Virtually all commercial instruments for the measurement of the oscillator PM noise make use of the crossspectrum method (arXiv:1004.5539 [physics.ins-det], 2010). High sensitivity is achieved by correlation and averaging on two equal channels, which measure the same input, and reject the background of the instrument. We show that a systematic error is always present if the thermal energy of the input power splitter is not accounted for. Such error can result in noise underestimation up to a few decibels in the lowest-noise quartz oscillators, and in an invalid measurement in the case of cryogenic oscillators. As another alarming fact, the presence of metamaterial com…

A Novel Method Of Measuring Light Absorption On A Self-Assembled Single Quantum Dot

2005

Abstract. We present a novel method by wich excitonic interband optical transitions within single InAs self-assembled quantum dots can be directly observed in a transmission experiment. Due to the extremely high resolution of the tecnique, individual peaks associated to single exciton absorption resonances in single quantum dots can be spectrally resolved. Using this technique we investigate the oscillator strength, homogeneous linewidth and fine structure splitting in a collection of such individual resonances.

Experimental Setup with Chaotic and Periodic Excitations for Cell Growth Studies

2020

The paper presents circuits used for excitation living cells to increase their growth rate. The main novelty is the proposal of using chaotic oscillations for the electromagnetic excitation. The research is in a preliminary phase and no conclusions have been yet derived for applications in biotechnology.
