From 1983 until July 1994, 561 patients in 2 urology departments (Mainz and Wuppertal) underwent a Mainz pouch 1 procedure. The Mainz pouch 1 was used for bladder augmentation in 60 patients, for orthotopic bladder substitution in 61 patients, and for continent cutaneous urinary diversion in 440 patients. In the group of continent cutaneous urinary diversion, the continence mechanism applied was an ileal intussusception nipple in 270 patients, an appendix stoma in 146 patients, a submucosal seromuscular bowel-flap tube in 14 patients, and a submucosal full-thickness bowel-flap tube in 10 patients. Chemotherapy-induced hepatopathy includes a wide variety of parenchymal and vascular hepatic changes on imaging, including diffuse or focal hepatopathies (i.e. hepatitis, steatosis, fibrosis, pseudocirrhosis, or sinusoidal obstruction). These changes can profoundly alter the hepatic parenchyma on imaging and result in both false negative and false-positive diagnoses of hepatic metastases and lead to errors in patient management strategies. Background Hip fractures incur the greatest medical costs of any fracture. Valid epidemiological data are important to monitor for time-dependent changes. In Norway, hip fractures are registered in the Norwegian Patient Registry (NPR), but no published national validation exists. The aim of the present study was a national validation of NPR as a register for hip fractures using diagnostic codes (ICD-10 S 72.0-2) and/or procedure codes (NOMESCO version 1.14 NFBxy (x = 0-9, y = 0-2) or NFJxy (x = 0-9, y = 0-2). The use of isolated caecal bowel segment in complicated vaginal reconstruction

Objective To report a one-stage procedure, using a segment of caecum, both to overcome failed previous procedures and for primary vaginal replacement in patients with congenital vaginal aplasia, where primary reconstruction often results in vaginal obstruction and fistula formation. Patients and methods The vagina was reconstructed using a 15-cm isolated caecal segment placed between the bladder and rectum and anastomosed to the introitus. Between 1985 and 1997 the technique was used in 17 patients (mean age 23 years). Indications included congenital malformations and vaginal loss through anterior exenteration or trauma. Retrorectal tumour simulating vaginal birth: an exceptional case of emergency surgery indication

Cystic retrorectal tumours are a very rare entity that pose a problem in differential diagnosis between congenital cyst and other lesions. We present a 49-year-old female patient presenting a perineal bulge which was discovered simulating a vaginal birth associated with prolapsed haemorrhoids grade IV. The interest of this case resides in the surgical indication of a big presacral cyst demonstrated via CT causing acute intense pain due to pelvic organ compression, as no emergent surgery management has been reported up to date.
