Amongst the complications of dialysis, amyloid osteopathy is getting increasingly significant. It is due to deposition of beta 2-microglobulin. To determine the incidence and time of development of this complication, the skeletal radiographs of 185 patients undergoing dialysis, some for up to ten years, were analysed retrospectively. In about 10% of patients, the presence of beta 2-microglobulin osteopathy may be expected. The radiological features, sites of predilection and differential diagnosis of amyloid osteopathy and of other skeletal changes due to dialysis are discussed.

We have recently demonstrated that the presence of Residual Vein Thrombosis (RVT), UltraSonography (US)-detected at the 3rd month after an episode of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) of the lower limbs, is an independent risk factor for developing recurrent Venous Thromboembolism (VTE). The management of DVT patients by detection of RVT may, therefore, represent a simple and reproducible method for establishing the individual risk of recurrence and for tailoring the optimal duration of Oral Anticoagulants (OA) (Siragusa S et al. Cervical radiculopathy from degenerative disease is a common problem with an incidence of 0.83–1.79 per 1000 person years. It can be caused by a cervical disc herniation, bony foraminal stenosis or spinal canal stenosis. Upon failure of conservative therapy or a significant motor deficit surgical treatment is indicated. A posterior cervical foraminotomy is one surgical option for the treatment of selected patients with lateral cervical disc herniations.

CT and MRI allow for non-invasive imaging of coronary bypasses with high accuracies concerning the patency of these vessels. Background Propofol reduces neuronal damage from cerebral ischemia when investigated for less than 8 postischemic days. This study investigates the long-term effects of propofol on neuronal damage and apoptosis-related proteins after cerebral ischemia and reperfusion. Methods Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned as follows: group 1 (n = 32, control): fentanyl and nitrous oxide-oxygen; group 2 (n = 32, propofol): propofol and oxygen-air. Ischemia (45 min) was induced by carotid artery occlusion and hemorrhagic hypotension. Pericranial temperature and arterial blood gases were maintained constant.
