Transaksjonskostnadsteor…

Joint Route Planning under Varying Market Conditions

2006

Purpose - To provide empirical evidence on the level of savings that can be attained by joint route planning and how these savings depend on specific market characteristics.Design/methodology/approach - Joint route planning is a measure that companies can take to decrease the costs of their distribution activities. Semantic Annotation and Retrieval of Services in the Cloud

2013

Recently, the economy has taken a downturn, which has forced many companies to reduce their costs in IT. This fact has, conversely, benefited the adoption of innovative computing models such as cloud computing, which allow businesses to reduce their fixed IT costs through outsourcing. As the number of cloud services available on the Internet grows, it is more and more difficult for companies to find those that can meet their needs. Under these circumstances, enabling a semantically-enriched search engine for cloud solutions can be a major breakthrough. In this paper, we present a fully-fledged platform based on semantics that (1) assist in generating a semantic description of cloud services…

Farming Efficiency and the Survival of Valuable Agro-Ecosystems: A Case Study of Rice Farming in European Mediterranean Wetlands

2009

Beyond the conventional role of providing food, rice farming in European Mediterranean wetlands performs a valuable non-marketable function related to the provision of environmental services. Rice and biodiversity are jointly produced, so that provision of flooded-rice-fields based environmental services depends crucially on private profitability of rice farming. Recent reforms of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and increasing access of third party countries to the domestic European market are challenging the competitiveness of European rice growers. This paper combines conventional competitiveness indicators and non-parametric efficiency analysis to ascertain the economic profitabilit…

Impact of Storage Acquisition Intervals on the Cost-Efficiency of the Private vs. Public Storage

2012

The volume of worldwide digital content has increased nine-fold within the last five years, and this immense growth is predicted to continue in foreseeable future reaching 8ZB already by 2015. Traditionally, in order to cope with the growing demand for storage capacity, organizations proactively built and managed their private storage facilities. Recently, with the proliferation of public cloud infrastructure offerings, many organizations, instead, welcomed the alternative of outsourcing their storage needs to the providers of public cloud storage services. The comparative cost-efficiency of these two alternatives depends on a number of factors, among which are e.g. the prices of the public…

In-house versus external basic research and first-to-market innovations

2016

This paper explores to what extent conducting internal basic research, as opposed to external basic research (i.e. outsourcing and collaboration with universities) encourages firms to bring new products into the market ahead of competitors, and contributes to innovation performance. The analysis is based on a sample of Spanish manufacturing firms over the period 2006–2012. Our findings suggest that conducting in-house basic research affects firm's propensity to introduce product novelties. Furthermore, performing this activity continuously affects the probability of being product-pioneer in low and medium–low tech sectors. Collaboration with universities also helps in introducing new produc…

Outsourcing information systems: A strategic partnership with risks

1993

Abstract As information processing and telecommunications technology increase in sophistication and complexity, organizations are finding it more difficult to manage their information systems (IS) for business success. American Standard, Eastman Kodak, General Dynamics, Metropolitan Life, and Young & Rubicam are prominent companies which have outsourced some or all of their IS activities. They are looking to gain competitive advantages by cutting costs and focusing internal resources on core activities. However, compromises in management control and data security, the potential of hidden costs, and th…
