Accordance of Online Health Information on Prostate Cancer with the European Association of Urology Guidelines.

2017

Background: The internet is an emerging source of information for prostate cancer (PCa) patients. Since little is known about the quality of information on PCa provided online, we investigated its accordance to the latest European Association of Urology (EAU) guidelines. Methods: A total of 89 German web pages were included for analysis. A quality model classifying the provider of information and its expertise was introduced. Correctness of provided information was systematically compared to the EAU guidelines. Results: Information was provided by medical experts (41%), media (1…

The Protocol on Trade and the Creation of the Southern African Development Community Free Trade Area

2017

The author offers a much-needed analysis of regional economic integration in the SADC and explains the successful establishment of the SADC Free Trade Area. He outlines the demand for regional market integration in the SADC’s member states from a structural perspective in consideration of intra-regional economic interdependence and trade relations. Against this background, this chapter provides an explanation of the specific provisions of the SADC Protocol on Trade that determined the institutional design of the free trade area. In this respect, Muntschick highlights the key role of South Africa as the regional economic hegemon. Finally, this chapter evaluates the performance of the SADC Fr…

Why do retail consumers buy green apparel? A knowledge-attitude-behaviour-context perspective

2021

Consumers' increased knowledge and awareness of environmental issues have not translated into a pervasive rise in purchasing green apparel, resulting in a phenomenon known as the ‘attitude-behaviour gap’. The current study seeks to explicate this gap by examining the drivers of green apparel buying behaviour. Towards this end, the study examines the association of environmental knowledge, green trust, and environmental concern with environmental attitude and green apparel buying behaviour. It further investigates the association of labelling desire and labelling satisfaction with this type of buying behaviour as well. In addition, the study uses the theoretical lens of the knowledge-attitud…

A Single radio based channel datarate-aware parallel rendezvous MAC protocol for cognitive radio networks

2009

Channel hopping based parallel rendezvous multichannel MAC protocols have several advantages since they do not need a control channel, require only one transceiver, and produce higher system capacity. However, channel hopping sequences in existing parallel rendezvous MAC protocols have been designed as irrelevant to channel datarates, leading to under-utilization of channel resources in multi-rate multi-channel networks. Considering that datarates among channels may be different, we propose a dynamic parallel rendezvous multichannel MAC protocol for synchronized cognitive radio networks in which the secondary users adjust their own distinct hopping sequences according to the datarates of th…

Collision Avoidance in Wake-Up Radio Enabled WSNs: Protocol and Performance Evaluation

2018

In wake-up radio (WuR) enabled wireless sensor networks (WSNs), the envisaged application scenarios are primarily targeted at low traffic load conditions. When applying WuR to medium or heavy traffic load scenarios, however, collisions among wake-up calls (WuCs) may happen, resulting in a lower packet delivery ratio (PDR). In this paper, we propose a media access control protocol for WuR- enabled WSN that is capable of avoiding WuC collisions by activating a contention-based collision avoidance mechanism for WuC transmissions. The performance of the proposed protocol is evaluated by a Markov chain based mathematical model and is compared with a WuR protocol that performs only clear channel as…

MECHANISM DESIGN FOR OPTIMAL CONSENSUS PROBLEMS

2006

We consider stationary consensus protocols for networks of dynamic agents with fixed and switching topologies. At each time instant, each agent knows only its and its neighbors’ state, but must reach consensus on a group decision value that is function of all the agents’ initial state. We show that our protocol design is the solution of individual optimizations performed by the agents. This notion suggests a game theoretic interpretation of consensus problems as mechanism design problems. Under this perspective a supervisor entails the agents to reach a consensus by imposing individual objectives. We prove that such objectives can be chosen so that rational agents have a unique optimal proto…

Computational Study of Association of Dihydroxybenzoic Acids in Solution: Testing the Molecular Self-Association Computational Methodology for Format…

2020

Already validated methodology for self-association in solutions were used to evaluate if this method could also be used in other studies regarding association in solution. Three isomeric dihydroxybenzoic acids were used to calculate Gibbs free energies of association for homodimers, heterotetramers and associates with solvent molecules by using DFT calculations in multiple environments and having different conformations.

The Open Dialogue Approach to Acute Psychosis: Its Poetics and Micropolitics

2003

In Finland, a network-based, language approach to psychiatric care has emerged, called "Open Dialogue." It draws on Bakhtin's dialogical principles (Bakhtin, 1984) and is rooted in a Batesonian tradition. Two levels of analysis, the poetics and the micropolitics, are presented. The poetics include three principles: "tolerance of uncertainty," "dialogism," and "polyphony in social networks." A treatment meeting shows how these poetics operate to generate a therapeutic dialogue. The micropolitics are the larger institutional practices that support this way of working and are part of Finnish Need-Adapted Treatment. Recent research suggests that Open Dialogue has improved outcomes for young peo…

Towards a Formal Analysis of MQtt Protocol in the Context of Communicating Vehicles

2017

International audience; The paper presents a formal approach to model, analyze, and verify a variant of Message Queue Telemetry Transport protocol (MQtt), dedicated to communicating vehicles (MQtt-CV) that send collected data to automotive infrastructures(subscribers). Our formal approach is based on Promela language and its system verification tool, the model checker SPIN. We propose a slight modification of MQtt protocol to reduce the big volume of data collected and sent by vehicles to infrastructures. Indeed, in the original version of MQtt protocol, when a broker receives data from publishers, it sends them directly to its subscribers without any filtration. As consequence, subscribers…
