The Spectrum of Ocular Manifestations in Patients with Waldenström's Macroglobulinemia.
2021
Purpose: To investigate the ocular manifestations in 91 Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia (WM) patients. Methods: Retrospective, cross-sectional, observational analysis. Results: Ocular impairments, detected in 19 patients, included flame-shaped hemorrhages, venous sausaging, papilledema, macular detachments, or central retinal vein occlusion in 16 patients; paraproteinemic keratopathy in 2; and a CANOMAD syndrome in 1. Best-corrected visual acuity was ≥0.5 logMAR units in 11 of 38 eyes. Intraocular pressure was increased in seven eyes. Genetic analysis in seven patients showed a mutation in the MYD88 gene in six patients and a nonsense mutation in the CXCR4 gene in five patients. Plasmapheresi…
Ortodonzia estetica: vantaggi e limiti della tecnica Invisalign
2013
Regional hypothermia of the kidney: surface or transarterial perfusion cooling? A functional study.
1980
Hypothermia reduces ischemic damage if prolonged occlusion of the renal artery is required during an in situ kidney operation. Hypothermia may be achieved by external cooling or by transarterial hypothermic perfusion. External cooling may lower intrarenal temperature heterogeneously. Perfusion techniques via intra-arterial catheters introduced percutaneously are associated with minimal technical difficulties. The 95 patients who underwent extensive hypothermic nephrolithotomy had differential 131iodine hippuran clearance studies preoperatively, and 2 weeks and 6 to 46 months postoperatively. Sixty-three kidneys were cooled by transarterial hypothermic perfusion and 39 were cooled with topic…
Implementation of laser speckle contrast analysis as connection kit for mobile phone for assessment of skin blood flow
2014
Laser speckle contrast analysis (LASCA) offers a non-contact, full-field, and real-time mapping of capillary blood flow and can be considered as an alternative method to Laser Doppler perfusion imaging. LASCA technique has been implemented in several commercial instruments. However, these systems are still too expensive and bulky to be widely available. Several optical techniques have found new implementations as connection kits for mobile phones thus offering low cost screening devices. In this work we demonstrate simple implementation of LASCA imaging technique as connection kit for mobile phone for primary low-cost assessment of skin blood flow. Stabilized 650 nm and 532 nm laser diode m…
Five years review of extraction frequencies at S.D.M. College of dental sciences and Hospital in orthodontic department
2019
Background To find out the frequency of extraction in general, in Class I, Class II Class III patients, and to compare the frequency of extraction among sex and age. Material and methods 550 cases were selected retrospectively having detailed case history, complete records of facial photographs, lateral cephalogram, orthopantomographs and study models. Frequency of extraction was evaluated separately for class I, class II and class III malocclusion and for sex and ages, using the records collected. Results Show that there was 59.80% of extraction in general. Comparison of sex shows that there were 66.60 of extraction in females. The mean age of males for extraction was 17.85 +/- 4.18 and th…
Penile Abflußvenenokklusion: Vergleich von erektiler Funktion und Kavernosometrie vor und nach perkutanen Eingriffen
1993
After percutaneous transpenile or retrograde venous occlusion for the treatment of a cavernous leak, the clinical results were correlated with cavernosometric flow measurements in 27 patients. In 15 patients, venous occlusion led to a reduction of the maintenance flow: in patients who showed improvement there was an average reduction of 30 ml/min, in those without improvement or deterioration it averaged 0.3 or 13 ml/min respectively. In 7 patients there was increased flow (up to +21 ml/min). One of these patients showed improved erectile function; the remaining 6 showed no change as was also the case in 5 other patients who had no change in cavernosometric measurements. Our findings sugges…
Brain BDNF levels are dependent on cerebrovascular endothelium-derived nitric oxide
2016
International audience; Scientific evidence continues to demonstrate a link between endothelial function and cognition. Besides, several studies have identified a complex interplay between nitric oxide (NO) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a neurotrophin largely involved in cognition. Therefore, this study investigated the link between cerebral endothelium-derived NO and BDNF signaling. For this purpose, levels of BDNF and the phosphorylated form of endothelial NO synthase at serine 1177 (p-eNOS) were simultaneously measured in the cortex and hippocampus of rats subjected to either bilateral common carotid occlusion (n=6), physical exercise (n=6) or a combination of both (n=6) …
Cerebral metabolism after transient ischemic attack. A 1H MR spectroscopy study
1999
International audience; Abstract: Metabolic changes induced by cerebral infarction or by stenosis and occlusion of the internal carotid artery have been previously described in 1H Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (1H MRS). These changes are essentially characterized by decreased N-acetyl-aspartate (NAA) and increased lactate concentration. Little is known about the metabolic changes observed in the three days following a transient ischemic attack (TIA) in the absence of stenosis or occlusion of the internal carotid artery, and without visible infarction on Magnetic Resonance imaging (MRI). We studied five patients with a TIA lasting between 30 min and 3 h, affecting the sensory and motor fun…
Retrospective study of maxilla growth in a Spanish population sample
2010
This study has been designed to evaluate the vertical and sagittal changes in the maxilla due to growth. A sample group was chosen of 38 individuals with normal occlusion, composed of 16 females and 22 males between the ages of 8 and 18. The total sample was divided into three groups: prepubescent (8-11 years), pubescent (12-14 years) and post-pubescent (15-18 years). A series of cephalometric angle parameters (SNA, maxillary height, slope of the palatal plane and maxillary depth) and lineal parameters (effective maxillary length, palatal plane length, middle third of the face height and convexity) were traced. Superimpositions of the initial and final cephalometries in the Ba-N plane and i…
Oral breathing and head posture
2006
Abstract Objective: To determine the head posture and cephalometric characteristics in oral breathing children. Materials and Methods: Lateral cephalograms taken in natural head posture of 35 oral breathing patients (OB) (mean age 8.8 ± 2.2 years SD; range 5–13 years) and of 35 patients with varied malocclusions and physiological breathing (PB) (mean age 9.7 ± 1.6 years SD; range 7–13 years) were examined. Results: A Student's t-test showed that an increase in angles NSL/OPT (P = .000), NSL/CVT (P = .001), FH/OPT (P = .000), FH/CVT (P = .005), and NSL/VER (P = .000); a decrease in the distance MGP-CV1p (P = .0001); and a decrease in the angles MGP/OP (P = .000) and OPT/ CVT (P = .036) were …
