Liquid Biopsy in Gynecological Cancers

2017

Gynecological cancers originate in woman’s reproductive organs, including ovarian, uterine or endometrial, cervical, vulvar, and vaginal cancers. These tumors are a leading health problem for women accounting for more than 20% of new cases and cancer-related deaths worldwide. Gynecological cancers are characterized by an aggressive biological behavior with a clinical presentation often in advanced stage of disease. This chapter will focus on the potential role of the novel molecular approaches based on liquid biopsy in detecting occult disease, monitoring the progression and identifying treatment-resistance in gynecological cancer patients. The ability to detect circulating tumor DNA (ct-DN…

Vaginal Metastasis from Renal Cell Carcinoma: The Role of Electron Microscopy

1989

A case of vaginal metastasis from a renal cell carcinoma is reported. This rare localization is often the first clue leading to the diagnosis of an occult renal adenocarcinoma. The role of electron microscopy is emphasized, since the histologic aspect of the lesion is similar to that of a primary vaginal mesonephric adenocarcinoma.

Neutron Star Radius-to-mass Ratio from Partial Accretion Disk Occultation as Measured through Fe Kα Line Profiles

2020

We present a new method to measure the radius-to-mass ratio (R/M) of weakly magnetic, disc-accreting neutron stars by exploiting the occultation of parts of the inner disc by the star itself. This occultation imprints characteristic features on the X-ray line profile that are unique and are expected to be present in low mass X-ray binary systems seen under inclinations higher than ~65 degrees. We analyse a NuSTAR observation of a good candidate system, 4U 1636-53, and find that X-ray spectra from current instrumentation are unlikely to single out the occultation features owing to insufficient signal-to-noise. Based on an extensive set of simulations we show that large-area X-ray detectors o…

Positive family history of colorectal cancer in a general practice setting [FRIDA.Frankfurt]: study protocol of a of a cross-sectional study.

2015

Background Although the risk of developing colorectal cancer (CRC) is 2-4 times higher in case of a positive family history, risk-adapted screening programs for family members related to CRC- patients do not exist in the German health care system. CRC screening recommendations for persons under 55 years of age that have a family predisposition have been published in several guidelines. The primary aim of this study is to determine the frequency of positive family history of CRC (1st degree relatives with CRC) among 40–54 year old persons in a general practitioner (GP) setting in Germany. Secondary aims are to detect the frequency of occurrence of colorectal neoplasms (CRC and advanced adeno…

LEGITTIMITÀ DELLE REGISTRAZIONI DEL LAVORATORE PER RAGIONI DIFENSIVE

2019
