Cyano-Bridged Bimetallic Assemblies from Hexacyanometalate, [M(CN)6]3- (M = MnIII and FeIII), and [M(N4-macrocycle)]2+ (M = FeIII, NiII and ZnII) Bui…

2001

Reactions between [M(N4-macrocycle)]2+ (M = ZnII and NiII; macrocycle ligands are either CTH = d,l-5,5,7,12,12,14-hexamethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane or cyclam = 1,4, 8, 11-tetrazaazaciclotetradecane) and [M(CN)6]3- (M = FeIII and MnIII) give rise to cyano-bridged assemblies with 1D linear chain and 2D honeycomblike structures. The magnetic measurements on the 1D linear chain complex [Fe(cyclam)][Fe(CN)6]·6H2O 1 points out its metamagnetic behavior, where the ferromagnetic interaction operates within the chain and the antiferromagnetic one between chains. The Neel temperature, TN, is 5.5 K and the critical field at 2 K is 1 T. The unexpected ferromagnetic intrachain interaction can…

High mitochondrial DNA sequence diversity in the parthenogenetic earthworm Dendrobaena octaedra

2010

Apomictic parthenogens are clonal organisms with limited genetic opportunity for increasing diversity beyond mutation. However, such species can be successful and have been shown to harbor more genetic diversity than might be expected. Here we surveyed diversity of the cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene from the mitochondrial genome of the earthworm Dendrobaena octaedra, an apomictic parthenogen. Diversity estimates made previously from allozyme markers for this species were high, but could have been affected by a detection bias, namely variable expression of alleles in the polyploid genome. We found similarly high mtDNA diversity over three localities in Finland, each represented by two sit…

Order and disorder in mixed metal linear chains: The homo and heterobimetallic EDTA (M(H2O)4OIOII)[M?(EDTA)] 6H2O complexes (M = Mg, Mn, Co, Zn and…

1984

Polymetallic solid solutions of the ethylenediaminetetracetic acid (EDTA) and six divalent metal ions exist in the range: MgαMnβCoγZnδNieCuτ(EDTA) · 6H2O where α + β + γ + δ + e + τ=2, 0⩽τ⩽1, 0⩽γ,e,δ⩽2, 0⩽α, β⩽1. This type of structure is characterized by the presence of two different octahedral carboxylate-bridged coordination sites forming infinite zig-zag chains. Visible and i.r. spectra and t.g.a. analysis show that there is occupational preference for the two coordination sites in the crystalline structure. Due to this preference, and also to the structural features, the heterobimetallic MM′(EDTA) · 6H2O compounds constitute a structurally new class of materials which can be described …

La primera clase de créditos en el procedimiento concursal de reorganización judicial en Chile: ¿la gran ausente?

2017

The new Chilean bankruptcy law, No. 20,720 (D.O. of January 9, 2014), omitsexpressly referring to the credits of the first class in the judicial reorganizationprocedure of the debtor company. This omission has been understoodby a sector of the doctrine and even by the Superintendence of Insolvencyand Re-entrepreneurship as synonymous with the exclusion of said credits, which therefore would not be “reorganizable”. This work aims to raise and justify the opposite conclusion, with a view to overcomingone of the main obstacles that is currently facing this procedure, in its sphereof practical implementation and in view of its economic viability for the proponentdebtor. The research methods used…

Histone deacetylase A key enzyme for the binding of regulatory proteins to chromatin

1993

AbstractCore histones can be modified by reversible, posttranslational acetylation of specific lysine residues within the N-terminal protein domains. The dynamic equilibrium of acetylation is maintained by two enzyme activities, histone acetyltransferase and histone deacetylase. Recent data on histone deacetylases and on anionic motifs in chromatin- or DNA-binding regulatory proteins (e.g. transcription factors, nuclear proto-oncogenes) are summarized and united into a hypothesis which attributes a key function to histone deacetylation for the binding of regulatory proteins to chromatin by a transient, specific local increase of the positive charge in the N-terminal domains of nucleosomal c…

Synthesis, characterization, cellular uptake and interaction with native DNA of a bis(pyridyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole copper(II) complex

2010

The copper(II) complex of 3,5-bis(2'-pyridyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole was synthesized and characterized. X-Ray crystallography revealed that the complex consists of a discrete [Cu(3,5-bis(2'-pyridyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole)(2)(H(2)O)(2)](2+) cation and two ClO(4)(-) anions. The Cu(II) coordination sphere has a distorted octahedral geometry and each ligand chelates the copper ion through the N(4) nitrogen of the oxadiazole ring and the nitrogen of one pyridine moiety. The coordinated water molecules are in cis position and each of them is H-bonded to the 5-pyridyl nitrogen of the oxadiazole ligand and to an oxygen of the perchlorate anion. Biological assays showed that, despite the free ligand not being …

Phosphatase-like Activity of Tetranuclear Iron(III) and Zinc(II) Complexes

2018

Three new tetranuclear iron(III) and zinc(II) complexes, [Fe4(cpdp)2(phth)2(OH)2]·8H2O (1), [Fe4(cpdp)2(terephth)2(OH)2] (2), and [Zn4(Hcpdp)2(suc)]Br2·12H2O (3), have been synthesized as models for the active site of phosphoester hydrolases by utilizing a polydentate ligand, N, N'-bis[2-carboxybenzomethyl]- N, N'-bis[2-pyridylmethyl]-1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol (H3cpdp) in combination with exogeneous phthalate (phth), terephthalate (terephth), and succinate (suc). Single crystal X-ray analyses reveal that the metallic core of complex 1 consists of four distorted octahedral iron(III) ions with average intraligand Fe---Fe separation of 3.656(2) A, while the structure 3 represents a tetranuclear m…

Syntheses, crystal structures, and oxidative DNA cleavage of some Cu(II) complexes of 5-amino-3-pyridin-2-yl-1,2,4-triazole

2004

Three new monomeric Cu(II) complexes of 5-amino-3-pyridin-2-yl-1,2,4-triazole (Hapt), [Cu(Hapt)(H(2)O)(2)(SO(4))] (1), [Cu(Hapt)(2)(H(2)O)(NO(3))](NO(3)) (2), and [Cu(Hapt)(2)(NCS-N)](NCS).H(2)O (3), have been prepared and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. One distorted [CuN(2)O(2)+O(')] square-pyramidal (1), one distorted [CuN(3)O+N(')+O(')] octahedral (2), and one distorted [CuN(4)+N(')] intermediate between square-pyramidal and trigonal-bipyramidal (3) coordination configuration were found and are suggested to be due to the chelating nature of the ligand, which interacts with Cu(II) through the N4(triazole) and N(pyridine) atoms. Spectral properties of these chelates are…

Finely Tuned Temperature-Controlled Cargo Release Using Paraffin-Capped Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles

2011

[EN] Trapped: Mesoporous silica nanoparticles were loaded with a fluorescent guest and functionalized with octadecyltrimethoxysilane. The alkyl chains interact with paraffins, which build a hydrophobic layer around the particle (see picture). Upon melting of the paraffin, the guest molecule is released, as demonstrated in cells for the guest doxorubicin. The release temperature can be tuned by choosing an appropriate paraffin. Cubane-Type CuII4 and MnII2MnIII2 Complexes Based on Pyridoxine: A Versatile Ligand for Metal Assembling

2013

By using Vitamin B6 in its monodeprotonated pyridoxine form (PN-H) [PN = 3-hydroxy-4,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)-2-methylpyridine], two tetranuclear compounds of formula [Mn4(PN-H)4(CH3CO2)3Cl2]Cl·2CH3OH·2H2O (1) and [Cu4(PN-H)4Cl2(H2O)2]Cl2 (2) have been synthesized and magneto-structurally characterized. 1 crystallizes in the triclinic system with space group P1 whereas 2 crystallizes in the orthorhombic system with Fdd2 as space group. They exhibit Mn(II)2Mn(III)2 (1) and Cu(II)4 (2) cubane cores containing four monodeprotonated pyridoxine groups simultaneously acting as chelating and bridging ligands (1 and 2), three bridging acetate ligands in the syn-syn conformation (1), and two terminally …
