Usefulness of transcutaneous PCO2to assess nocturnal hypoventilation in restrictive lung disorders
2016
Background and objectiveNocturnal hypoventilation is now an accepted indication for the initiation of non-invasive ventilation. Nocturnal hypoventilation may be an under diagnosed condition in chronic respiratory failure. The most appropriate strategy to identify sleep hypoventilation is not yet clearly defined. In clinical practice, it is indirectly assessed using nocturnal pulse oximetry (NPO) and morning arterial blood gases (mABG). Even though continuous transcutaneous carbon dioxide partial pressure (TcPCO2) monitoring is theoretically superior to NPO plus mABG, it is not routinely used. We aimed to prospectively compare NPO plus mABG with nocturnal TcPCO2 for the detection of alveolar…

Muscarinic M2 receptors in acetylcholine-isoproterenol functional antagonism in human isolated bronchus
2002
The muscarinic functional antagonism of isoproterenol relaxation and the contribution of muscarinic M2 receptors were examined in human isolated bronchus. In intact tissues, acetylcholine (ACh) precontraction decreased isoproterenol potency and maximal relaxation (−log EC50 shift = −1.49 ± 0.16 and Emax inhibition for 100 μM ACh = 30%) more than the same levels of histamine contraction. The M2receptor-selective antagonist methoctramine (1 μM) reduced this antagonism in ACh- but not histamine-contracted tissues. Similar results were obtained for forskolin-induced relaxation. After selective inactivation of M3 receptors with 4-diphenylacetoxy- N-(2-chloroethyl)piperadine hydrochloric acid (3…
Chronic kidney disease in patients with obstructive sleep apnea. A narrative review.
2018
Prevalence of both chronic kidney disease (CKD) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is continuously increasing. Moreover, the prevalence of OSA increases as kidney function declines and is higher among patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). In addition, OSA is recognized as a potential nontraditional risk factor for development and progression of CKD. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) plays a pivotal role in the management of OSA, eliminating patients' symptoms and improving their quality of life. Recent studies suggested that CPAP treatment may have beneficial effects on kidney function among patients with OSA. This narrative review summarizes the existing knowledge on the as…
Slow relaxation of the magnetization in a {CoIIIMnIII} heterometallic brick-wall network
2021
Abstract The use of the cyanide-bearing dicobalt(III) complex (PPh4)2[Co2III(μ−2,5-dpp)(CN)8] as a metalloligand towards [Mn(salen)(H2O)]ClO4 afforded the heterobimetallic two-dimensional compound of formula [{MnIII(salen)}2{(μ-NC)4Co2III(μ−2,5-dpp)(CN)4}]n (1) [PPh4+ = teraphenylphosphonium cation, 2,5-dpp = 2,5-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine and H2salen = N,N’-ethylenebis(salicylideneimine)] whose structure has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 exhibits a neutral brick-wall structure, where each [Co2III(μ−2,5-dpp)(CN)8]2− unit adopts a tetrakis-monodentate bridging mode towards four {MnIII(salen)}+ fragments through four of its eight cyanide ligands. Each cobalt(III)…
Chains and channels in polynuclear copper(II) complexes with 2,3-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine (dpp) as bridging ligand; syntheses, crystal structures and m…
2000
Abstract The preparation and crystal structures for three Cu(II) polynuclear, chain complexes with 2,3-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine (dpp) as bridging ligand are reported, [Cu(dpp)(H2O)2]n(NO3)2n·2n/3H2O (1), [Cu(dpp)(H2O)2]n(CF3SO3)2n (2), and [Cu(dpp)(H2O)2]n(BF4)2n·2nH2O (3). For the latter compound the crystal structure at four different temperatures have been studied. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility data and ESR measurements of 1–3 and of the related copper(II) chain [Cu(dpp)(H2O)2]n(ClO4)2n·2nH2O (4) (whose structure was previously reported) have been performed. Compounds 1 and 2 crystallize in the same trigonal space group, R 3 c; 3 is orthorhombic, space group Pbca. Complexes …

1996
Abstract The ligand 2,2′-bipyrimidine (bipym) was reacted with diorganotins R 2 SnCl 2 (R = methyl, ethyl) and complexes of the types R 2 SnCl 2 bipym, R 2 SnCl 2 bipym · bipym and (R 2 SnCl 2 ) 2 bipym were synthesized and studied by 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopy in solution, and by IR and Mossbauer spectroscopy in the solid state and frozen solutions. The complexes Et 2 SnCl 2 bipym · bipym and (Et 2 SnCl 2 ) 2 bipym were characterized by X-ray diffraction methods. In both complexes the tin environment is octahedral with chloro atoms in a cis disposition, the ethyl groups in a trans disposition and two N atoms from the ligand bipym. the second complex is a centrosymmetric binuclear specie…
2,3,5,6-Tetrakis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine (tppz)-containing iron(II) complexes: Syntheses and crystal structures
2007
Abstract The preparation and crystal structure of two iron(II) complexes of formula PPh4-mer-[Fe(tppz)(CN)3] · 7H2O (1) and [Fe(tppz)2][Fe(NCS)4] (2) [tppz = 2,3,5,6-tetrakis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine; PPh 4 + = tetraphenylphosphonium cation ] are reported here. The structure of 1 consists of mononuclear mer-tricyano[2,3,5,6-tetrakis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine]ferrate(II) anions, tetraphenylphosphonium cations and crystallization water molecules. Three carbon atoms from three cyanide groups in a mer arrangement and three nitrogen atoms from a tridentate tppz ligand build a somewhat distorted octahedral surrounding around the iron atom in 1. The values of the Fe–C [1.925(6)–1.947(5) A] and Fe–N [1.870(4)–1…
