La vulgarisation scientifique et les doctorants : mesure de l'engagement, exploration d'effets sur le chercheur

We ask two questions: what are the factors that influence researchers’ public engagement activities (PEA)? And what are the impacts of these activities on the researcher? After presenting a historical overview of PEA, we analyze 20 surveys carried out between 1967 and 2014. We identify some global trends: PEA is generally positively perceived, researcher’s engagement is occasional but robust. Besides those trends some differences appear between studies based on theoretical models and empirical studies: the latter report complaints such as lack of time or lack of recognition, whereas theoretical-based ones challenge these statements.To further explore our two questions, we used two approache…

Electric relaxation and Mn3+/Mn4+ charge transfer in Fe-doped Bi12MnO20–BiMn2O5 structural self-composite

Fe-doped Bi12MnO20–BiMn2O5 ceramics was sintered at 1130 K for 6 h in ambient air. Two centro-symmetric phases formed thermodynamically stable self-composite material that was deduced from X-ray pattern analysis. The lattice parameters were a = 10.147(8) Å—for the cubic I23 Bi12MnO20 phase; and a = 7.545(4) Å, b = 8.538(1) Å, c = 5.758(3) Å—for the orthorhombic Pbam BiMn2O5 phase. The 57Fe Mössbauer spectrum, recorded at room temperature, has shown pure electronic quadrupolar split. Effects of pulsed high-frequency electromagnetic fields on the neuroendocrine system.

The influence of pulsed high-frequency electromagnetic fields emitted from a circularly polarized antenna on the neuroendocrine system in healthy humans was investigated (900 MHz electromagnetic field, pulsed with 217 Hz, average power density 0.02 mW/cm<sup>2</sup>). Nocturnal hormone profiles of growth hormone (GH), cortisol, luteinizing hormone (LH) and melatonin were determined under polysomnographic control. An alteration in the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis activity was found with a slight, transient elevation in the cortisol serum level immediately after onset of field exposure which persisted for 1 h. Abstract Reaction of 3-nitroisoxazoline-2-oxide with monosubstituted ethenes, first time documented fifty years ago, have been reviewed. Structures of phenyl and cyano derivatives of 1-aza-2,8-dioxabicyclo[3.3.0]octane produced in [3 + 2] cycloaddition (32CA) between styrene and acrylonitrile with 3-nitroisoxazoline-2-oxide were determined through single crystal XRD analysis. The molecular mechanism of the title 32CA has been also analyzed within the Molecular Electron Density Theory (MEDT) based on the M06-2X(PCM)/6-311 + G(d,p) calculations.

We analyze the behavior of the energy profile of the ring-closure process for the transformation of (3Z,5Z)-octa-1,3,5,7-tetraene 5 to (1Z,3Z,5Z)-cycloocta-1,3,5-triene 6 through a combination of electron localization function (ELF) and catastrophe theory (CT). From this analysis, concepts such as bond breaking/forming processes, formation/annihilation of lone pairs, and other electron pair rearrangements arise naturally through the reaction progress simply in terms of the different ways of pairing up the electrons. Design and Implementation of an Electronic Control Unit for a CFR Bi-Fuel Spark Ignition Engine

In this work an Electronic Control Unit for the management of a CFR engine will be described. The engine, which is used both for fuel octane rating (both in terms of RON and MON) and for research purpose, is equipped with a double injection system, with the aim to independently operate both with liquid and gaseous fuels. The developed ECU, hence, is able to control the injections of both kind of fuel, together with the spark ignition. Furthermore the system is also able to measure fuel’s consumption, instantaneous engine speed of rotation and air-fuel ratio, showing all the running parameters both on a local LCD display and on a PC based graphical user interface.
