Aluminum and Gallium Substitution in Yttrium and Lutetium Aluminum–Gallium Garnets: Investigation by Single-Crystal NMR and TSL Methods
2016
The work reports the results on 71Ga and 27Al NMR investigation of the gallium and aluminum ions distribution over tetrahedral and octahedral positions in the Y3Al5−x GaxO12:Ce single crystals and Lu3Al5−xGaxO12:Ce single-crystalline epitaxial films. The gallium content x varies between 0 and 5 in crystals and between 0.3 and 2 in films.. We find that in both the Y- and Lu-based solid solutions the larger gallium ions are preferably located at the tetrahedral position while the smaller aluminum ions prefer the octahedral position of the garnet host. Based on NMR data, the dependence of fractional occupation parameters of the tetrahedral site of Ga and Al ions on the Ga content is determined…
Magneto-structural diversity of Co(ii) compounds with 1-benzylimidazole induced by linear pseudohalide coligands
2020
We report the preparation, spectroscopic characterisation, crystal structure determination and cryomagnetic investigation of three cobalt(II) complexes of formula trans-[Co(bim)4(NCS)2] (1), [Co(bim)2(NCO)2] (2) and [Co(bim)2(N3)2]n (3) (bim = 1-benzylimidazole). The structure of 1 is made up of neutral [Co(bim)4(NCS)2] mononuclear units, where the cobalt(II) ion is six-coordinate with four monodentate bim ligands in equatorial positions and two N-thiocyanato groups in the axial sites building a slightly compressed octahedron. In contrast to 1, each cobalt(II) ion in 2 is four-coordinate with two imidazole-nitrogen atoms from two bim molecules and two N-cyanato ligands describing a slightly…
High-pressure crystal structure investigation of synthetic Fe2SiO4 spinel.
2011
AbstractThe crystal structure of Fe2SiO4 spinel at room temperature was investigated at seven different pressures by X-ray diffraction, using a diamond anvil cell to examine the influence of Fe substitution on ringwoodite behaviour at high pressure. The results compared with those of a pure Mg endmember show that the substitution of Fe into the spinel structure causes only small changes in the compression rate of coordination polyhedra and the distortion of the octahedron. The data show that the compression rate for the octahedron and tetrahedron in (Mg,Fe)2SiO4 can be considered statistically equal for FeO6 and MgO6, as well as for SiO4 in both the endmembers. This shows why almost identic…
Bamboo-like Chained Cavities and Other Halogen-Bonded Complexes from Tetrahaloethynyl Cavitands with Simple Ditopic Halogen Bond Acceptors
2018
Halogen bonding provides a useful complement to hydrogen bonding and metal-coordination as a tool for organizing supramolecular systems. Resorcinarenes, tetrameric bowl-shaped cavitands, have been previously shown to function as efficient scaffolds for generating dimeric capsules in both solution and solid-phase, and complicated one-, two-, and three-dimensional frameworks in the solid phase. Tetrahaloethynyl resorcinarenes (bromide and iodide) position the halogen atoms in a very promising “crown-like” orientation for acting as organizing halogen-bond donors to help build capsules and higher-order networks. Symmetric divalent halogen bond acceptors including bipyridines, 1,4-dioxane, and 1…
Erich Hückel’s Education and Scientific Awakening: The Path to Quantum Chemistry
2009
A lucky star seems to have hung over the year 1896 for quantum chemistry. Three of its founders in the 20th century were born in that year: Erich Huckel, Friedrich Hund and Robert S. Mullikan. Armand Arthur Erich Joseph Huckel was born on August 9, 1896 in Charlottenburg, on the outskirts of Berlin, as the second of three sons to Marie Huckel (1879–1947) nee Maier and the lecturer and medical doctor Armand Huckel (1860–1927). He spent his first 3 years in Charlottenburg with his brother Walter, who was a year older than him, in a spatious apartment on the first story of a building on Schluterstrasse before the arrival of their younger brother Rudi
Spirit and Spirituality: Philosophical Trends in Late Modern Pneumatology
2008
AbstractThis dialogue piece reviews some of the key developments in the doctrine of the Holy Spirit in late modern theology that have contributed to the scholarly and practical integration of pneumatology and Christian spirituality. Shifts in the meaning and use of three concepts — matter, person, and force — have played a particularly influential role in these developments. These trends are illustrated in several recent pneumatological proposals. The final section outlines some new directions for the ongoing task of reforming pneumatology.
Freeze-dried precursor-based synthesis of new polymetallic oxynitrides, V1−u−zCruMoz(OxNy),V1−u−zCruWz(OxNy), Cr1−u−zMouWz(OxNy) (u, z=0.2, 0.33, 0.4…
2005
Abstract Interstitial polymetallic oxynitrides in the solid solution series V 1− u − z Cr u Mo z (O x N y ), V 1− u − z Cr u W z (O x N y ) and Cr 1− u − z Mo u W z (O x N y ) ( u , z = 0.2, 0.33, 0.4, 0.6, u + z z Cr z Mo z W z (O x N y ) ( z = 0.25) composition, can be obtained by ammonolysis of precursors resulting from the freeze-drying of aqueous solutions of the simple metal salts NH 4 VO 3 , (NH 4 ) 2 CrO 4 , (NH 4 ) 6 Mo 7 O 24 ·4H 2 O and (NH 4 ) 6 W 12 O 39 ·18H 2 O. A study of the influence of the preparative variables on the outcomes of this procedure is presented. Compounds in the V 1− u − z Cr u Mo z (O x N y ) series have been prepared as single phases by direct ammonolys…
Impact of physicians’ participation in non-interventional post-marketing studies on their prescription habits: A retrospective 2-armed cohort study i…
2020
Background Non-interventional post-marketing studies (NIPMSs) sponsored by pharmaceutical companies are controversial because, while they are theoretically useful instruments for pharmacovigilance, some authors have hypothesized that they are merely marketing instruments used to influence physicians’ prescription behavior. So far, it has not been shown, to our knowledge, whether NIPMSs actually do have an influence on prescription behavior. The objective of this study was therefore to investigate whether physicians’ participation in NIPMSs initiated by pharmaceutical companies has an impact on their prescription behavior. In addition, we wanted to analyze whether specific characteristics of…
Anxiety and the severity of Tension-Type Headache mediate the relation between headache presenteeism and workers’ productivity
2018
The primary objective of this study was to explore the mechanisms and conditions whereby Tension-Type Headache (TTH) presenteeism relates to health-related loss of productivity as a result of both reduced physical and mental health. To this end, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to conduct a secondary data analysis of a randomized clinical trial involving 78 Tension-type Headache (TTH) patients. The results showed that TTH presenteeism did not directly relate to health-related loss of productivity, either due to physical, or mental health problems. However, through anxiety-state, TTH presenteeism decreased patients' productivity, as consequence of reduced physical and mental healt…
A Patient Registry to Improve Patient Safety: Recording General Neurosurgery Complications
2016
Background To improve the transparency of the local health care system, treatment cost was recently referenced to disease related groups. Treatment quality must be legally documented in a patient registry, in particular for the highly specialized treatments provided by neurosurgery departments. Methods In 2013 we have installed a patient registry focused on cranial neurosurgery. Surgeries are characterized by indication, treatment, location and other specific neurosurgical parameters. Preoperative state and postoperative outcome are recorded prospectively using neurological and sociological scales. Complications are graded by their severity in a therapy-oriented complication score system (C…
