This paper offers a view of bad faith based on the study of several figures of speech: apodioxis, argument from authority, prolepsis, ratiocination, aposiopesis, comparison, etc. We try and establish formal criteria to distinguish bad faith, at the same time acknowledging that it also resorts to elements of textual continuity, cultural references and values and implications that are not necessarily manifest. Alongside well established figures of speech, we also describe more elaborate types of arguments such as narrative conglobation, lexical arsenal, identity argument, or psychological strategies like denial.

This paper presents a new analysis of the speech delivered by Cicero on behalf of Milo (pro Milone), who had been charged with the murder of Clodius. It suggests that Cicero’s defensive strategy aimed from the beginning to get an acquittal on two different grounds. The first one was based on the reasoning that Clodius’ murder was committed lawfully in self-defense. The second one was based on the argument that Clodius’ killing was in the best interest of the state. Both do not have to be conflicting. In gynodioecious plants, females are expected to produce more or better seeds than hermaphrodites in order to be maintained within the same population. Even though rarely measured, higher seed production can be achieved through differences in physiology. In this work, we measured sexual dimorphism in several physiological traits in the gynodioecious plant Geranium sylvaticum. Photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, transpiration rate, WUE and isotopic signatures were measured in plants growing in two habitats differing in light availability. Darba mērķis ir novērtēt, vai no Latvijas Universitātes Cietvielu fizikas institūta laboratorijā atsevišķi pieejamām ierīcēm ir iespējams izveidot vienotu automatizētu mērīšanas iekārtu, kas būtu lietojama fotodiožu izejas signāla spektrālās atkarības noteikšanai. Pirmajā nodaļā ir veikta literatūras analīze par pusvadītājiem. Otrajā nodaļā ir secīgi aprakstīta automatizētās mērīšanas iekārtas izveide. Trešajā nodaļā tiek analizēti iegūtie rezultāti, veikta salīdzināšana ar teorētiskajiem datiem.
