Chromosomal distribution of interstitial telomeric sequences in nine neotropical primates (Platyrrhini): possible implications in evolution and phylo…

2016

To localize interstitial telomeric sequences (ITSs) and to test whether their pattern of distribution could be linked to chromosomal evolution, we hybridized telomeric sequence probes (peptide nucleic acid, PNA) on metaphases of New World monkeys: Callithrix argentata, Callithrix jacchus, Cebuella pygmaea, Saguinus oedipus, Saimiri sciureus, Aotus lemurinus griseimembra, Aotus nancymaae (Cebidae), Lagothrix lagotricha (Atelidae) and Callicebus moloch (Pithecidae), characterized by a rapid radiation and a high rate of chromosomal rearrangements. Our analysis of the probe signal localization allowed us to show in all the species analysed, as normally, the telomeric location at the terminal en…

Tamarins are a distinct group of small sized New World monkeys with complex phylogenetic relationships and poorly studied cytogenetic traits. In this study, we applied molecular cytogenetic analyses by fluorescence in situ hybridization with probes specific for telomeric sequences and ribosomal DNA loci after DAPI/CMA3 staining on metaphases from five tamarin species, namely Leontocebus fuscicollis, Leontopithecus rosalia, Saguinus geoffroyi, Saguinus mystax and Saguinus oedipus, with the aim to investigate the distribution of repetitive sequences and their possible role in genome evolution. Our analyses revealed that all five examined species show similar karyotypes, 2n = 46, which differ …

L'arte mantica alla prova dello scetticismo nell'Edipo re

2022

Since the beginning of the Sophoclean drama OT, King Oedipus, in his attempt to contrast the plague that afflicts Thebes, has to confront the traditional influence of the Delphic oracles and the opinion of the local seer, Tiresias, who is demanding to interpret the words of the God Apollo. In this sense, the Sophoclean drama seems to set into the Attic scene the main traits of its contemporary public debate (second half of the 5th Century BC) about power and fallibility of both oracles and their human interpreters, the so-called manteis. This paper aims by means of a detailed analysis of the dramatic discourse to investigate the positions expressed by the different characters involved in th…

The prologue and the fi rst stasimon of Oedipus at Colonus: a comparative study

2017

In this paper we analyze the fi rst stasimon of the tragedy Oedipus at Colonus of Sophocles based …

2015

The ghosts of Greek myths are omnipresent in the film works of Pier Paolo Pasolini. Moreover, as will be depicted later on, his first readings of Greek texts were a crucial moment for his creative path towards becoming a film director. As a starting point, the personal circumstances of Pasolini will be examined. The general problems of his contemporary society as well as those more particular to his native country, Italy, and to his own personal life all make their way into his work, transposed via myths, which are given a new meaning

La variedad de estas piezas rebela el deseo experimentador del autor Besides the introductory and informative function, prologues of Seneca’s tragedies fulfill a function in setting, so that recipients of these …

2017

The parent–child relationship is omnipresent in the works of Pier Paolo Pasolini. In Oedipus Rex, the filmmaker uses both the original myth and Sophocles’ tragedy to underline the fact that the father–son relationship is rooted in the Ancient World. Moreover, as will be depicted later on, Pasolini uses the work to evoke his personal experiences and artistic style. In this sense, the film is founded on psychoanalytic theories. Oedipus embodies the heart of Freudian thought: metahistorical hatred against the father, patricide and incest on the one hand, nostalgia and longing for the mother’s womb on the other. At the epicenter of this reflection lies the Oedipal theme of father–son relationsh…

"I ciechi" di Cesare Pavese tra echi psicanalitici e sincretismo letterario

2014

The article provides a close reading of the short dialogue "I ciechi" included in "Dialogues with Leucò" (1947) by Cesare Pavese. The aim is to demonstrate that I ciechi" is essential to correctly understand Pavese's unfaithful and original approach to three fields: ethnology, psychoanalysis and literature.

Tragico e tragedia in "una questione privata"

2014

The article focuses on the theoretical concepts of ‘Tragic’ and ‘Tragedy’, here applied to the novel Una questione privata by Beppe Fenoglio (originally published in 1963). The first part mostly regards the similarities between Una questione privata and dramatic structures (both theatrical and cinematographic) that Fenoglio could have read at that time. A short comparison with ancient Greek tragedy, in particular with Sophocles’ piece Oedipus, closes the first part. In the second one, the Author conducts a thematic analysis on textual premonitions of Milton’s tragic fate in Una questione privata.
