Opportunistic traffic Offloadings Mechanisms for Mobile/4G Networks
In the last few years, it has been observed a drastic surge of data traffic demand from mobile personal devices (smartphones and tablets) over cellular networks [1]. Even though a significant improvement in cellular bandwidth provisioning is expected with LTE-Advanced systems, the overall situation is not expected to change significantly. In fact, the diffusion of M2M and IoT devices is expected to increase at an exponential pace (the share of M2M devices is predicted to increase 5x by 2018 [1]) while the capacity of the cellular network is expected to increase linearly [1]. In order to meet such a high demand and to increase the capacity of the channel, multiple offloading techniques are c…

Educare il bambino alla vita interiore. La lezione di Maria Montessori nel tempo della post-democrazia
2014
Maria Montessori’s pedagogy of interiority carried out in the “Houses of Children” is relevant to the postmodern age. By focusing on the care of the child’s inner life, Montessori’s lesson offers the new generations authentic religious practices, thus responding to the new, increasingly widespread, need for sacred. On this wake, contemporary pedagogy is re-launching childhood as a new resource for the adult, endeavouring to transform the environments where education takes place into laboratories of peace and democracy.
Studenti universitari: una riflessione
2021
The presence of foreign students in Italian universities intersects with the debate on citizenship, cooperation, integration and the opportunities offered by the labour market. Moreover, talking about foreign students enrolled in Universities implies the need to remember the heterogeneity between the types of students in relation not only to their origin, their motivations in choosing a course, but also to the problems connected to their legal status. In the text, reference will be made to data on foreign students who, at the end of their high school education, decided to continue their university studies by enrolling in a first-level or single-cycle university course in Italian universitie…
Electromagnetic response of LaO_0.94F_0.06FeAs: AC susceptibility and microwave surface resistance
2009
We discuss on the electromagnetic response of a polycrystalline sample of LaO_0.94F_0.06FeAs exposed to DC magnetic fields up to 10 kOe. The low- and high-frequency responses have been investigated by measuring the AC susceptibility at 100 kHz and the microwave surface resistance at 9.6 GHz. At low as well as high DC magnetic fields, the susceptibility strongly depends on the amplitude of the AC driving field, highlighting enhanced nonlinear effects. The field dependence of the AC susceptibility exhibits a magnetic hysteresis that can be justified considering the intragrain-field-penetration effects on the intergrain critical current density. The microwave surface resistance exhibits a cloc…
Kompakti automatisoitu laser-ionisointijärjestelmä
2011
In an experimental nuclear physics off-line systems are often used in situations where acceleration energies are relatively small. Main benefits are low price and meager radiated laboratory enviroments. In this master’s thesis I discuss mostly about automation which was used in our off-line system. The system was built at the Ion Guide Separator On-Line facility (IGISOL) in Jyväskylä University. The automation set up was made with the Phoenix Contacts inline terminals, which were programmed by using the Labview program. The system consists of thermistor, skimmer handling, mirror handling, gasline parts per billion (ppb) mixing and quadrupole mass spectrometer measurement. There were major p…
Human neonates prefer colostrum to mature milk: Evidence for an olfactory bias toward the "initial milk"?
2021
International audience; OBJECTIVES: Colostrum is the initial milk secretion which ingestion by neonates warrants their adaptive start in life. Colostrum is accordingly expected to be attractive to newborns. The present study aims to assess whether colostrum is olfactorily attractive for 2-day-old newborns when presented against mature milk or a control. METHODS: The head-orientation of waking newborns was videotaped in three experiments pairing the odors of: (a) colostrum (sampled on postpartum day 2, not from own mother) and mature milk (sampled on average on postpartum day 32, not from own mother) (n tested newborns = 15); (b) Colostrum and control (water; n = 9); and (c) Mature milk and …
Lakoff & Johnson lettori di Blumenberg? Le analogie tra metaforologia e teoria della metafora concettuale
2022
This paper aims at showing the analogies between Hans Blumenberg’s Metaphorology and George Lakoff & Mark Johnson’s Conceptual Metaphor Theory. Starting from the analysis of the proportion for which ABSOLUTE METAPHOR: METAPHORICAL EXPRESSIONS = BACKGROUND METAPHOR: CONCEPTUAL METAPHOR, we propose to compare Blumenberg’s Metaphorology with Lakoff & Johnson’s Conceptual Metaphor Theory, outlining similarities and differences in reference to: (a) the fundamental notions on which the two theories are based, (b) the methods and (c) the relationship between language-thought-culture assumed by the two theories. However, the reconstruction of the relation between the two theoretical paradig…
Hydrological consequences of natural rubber plantations in Southeast Asia
2020
Since the turn of the century, rubber plantations have been expanding their footprint across Southeast Asia in response to an increasing global demand for rubber products. Between 2000 and 2014, the area cultivated with rubber more than doubled. It is not clear how this major change in the agricultural landscape of Southeast Asia, the main area of rubber production in the world, is affecting land‐use patterns and water resources in the region. Here we use maps of rubber plantations and other croplands in conjunction with a hydrological model and remote sensing analyses to assess land‐use patterns and water resources affected by natural rubber plantations. Results show water requirements of …
Effect of EDTA on divalent metal adsorption onto grape stalk and exhausted coffee wastes
2007
In the present work, two industrial vegetable wastes, grape stalk, coming from a wine producer, and exhausted coffee, coming from a soluble coffee manufacturer, have been investigated for the removal of Cu(II) and Ni(II) from aqueous solutions in presence and in absence of the strongly complexing agent EDTA. Effects of pH and metal-EDTA molar ratio, kinetics as a function of sorbent concentration, and sorption equilibrium for both metals onto both sorbents were evaluated in batch experiments. Metal uptake was dependent of pH, reaching a maximum from pH around 5.5. EDTA was found to dramatically reduce metal adsorption, reaching total uptake inhibition for both metals onto both sorbents at e…
