Reproducibility and validity of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring in children.

2002

During the past several years ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) has been introduced into the study of hypertension and has become a useful tool in making clinical decisions. The ABPM improves the reproducibility of the estimates of a subject's casual blood pressure (BP) both in normotensive and in hypertensive subjects, independent of age. The advantages of ambulatory BP (ABP) over its office counterpart have been studied in children to observe the relationship between BP measurement and early markers of organ damage. In different groups of subjects that have included normotensives, essential hypertensives, renal transplant recipients, or patients with repair of an aortic coarctat…

European Society of Hypertension practice guidelines for home blood pressure monitoring.

2010

Self-monitoring of blood pressure by patients at home (home blood pressure monitoring (HBPM)) is being increasingly used in many countries and is well accepted by hypertensive patients. Current hypertension guidelines have endorsed the use of HBPM in clinical practice as a useful adjunct to conventional office measurements. Recently, a detailed consensus document on HBPM was published by the European Society of Hypertension Working Group on Blood Pressure Monitoring. However, in daily practice, briefer documents summarizing the essential recommendations are needed. It is also accepted that the successful implementation of clinical guidelines in routine patient care is dependent on their acc…

Disease control and treatment pathways of asthma patients after initiating ICS/LABA

2019

Introduction: GINA guidelines recommend medium dose (MED) and high dose (HD) ICS/LABA as the preferred controller for step 4 asthma patients and clinicians should consider step up/down based on their patients’ asthma control. Limited data is available on how step 4 patients respond to ICS/LABA and how they step up/down in clinical practice. Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink to assess control status of asthma patients in one year after initiating a MED or HD ICS/LABA between 2007 and 2015, and examined their treatment pathways within one year after the treatment initiation. Results: 29,229 and 16, 575 patients initiated MED and HD…
